Why isn't electronics plural

There is more than enough information about electronics to write an in depth report on it.

^^I thought 'it' should be changed to 'them' because electronics is plural. or is it not??? my SAT prep teacher says it's singular, but I do not understand why.

Hmm, don’t quote me on this but I would guess because “electronics” is a category vs. multiple items. I could be wrong of course…

Consider this:
There is more than enough information about physics to write an in depth report on them.

It’s English; don’t try to have it make sense. Jury, company, faculty, and team are collective nouns and singular. It’s the same type of rule.

But of course with English there are rarely rules without exceptions; certainly, electronics isn’t always singular, e.g., “the electronics in this device are very complex”.

Electronics is the name of a field/category. In this case, it is singular. Ex. There is more than enough information about electronics to write an in depth report on it.

Electronics is also a plural when referring to multiple electrical components. Ex. The electronics in my new car broke down.

^yeah. it really depends on the context. Some other field-related terms are confusing, depending on the sentence context. For example, statistics, politics, mathematics, etc.

Indeed.

One uses statistics (plural) in the study of statistics (singular).
