Why isn't NYU considered a top college on CC?

I didn't realize I had to look up NYU alphabetically. I just assumed I would find it in the top school thread??

Its not a top 20 US News school.

yea but neither is georgetown, uva, umich or ucla.

i do think nyu should be up there but only for convenience purposes..alot of people access the nyu thread

It's not a top 25 school.

"It's not a top 25 school"

--- according to which bible?

...and nyu's law school, philosophy department, film and business programs are "top schools" IF you're going to use that US News and Ranks Book as anything official to live by

The most common reason I hear is that NYU doesn't have enough money and doesn't give out enough aid - dunno whether that's true or whether it's "the" reason or not.

I agree with miche - take a look at the US News Grad School rankings and you'll find NYU continuously ranked highly:

13 Business (#3 Finance)

4 Law

11 Education

1 Applied Math

To name a few.

But I don't guess the CC top 20 schools are referring to grad school and I think they base a lot off of peer review rankings.

drama is pretty high up there too

Yeah I couldn't find Tisch for some reason, but I think there's little reason to think that it wouldn't be in the top 3.

i know it's at least top 5

Economics would definitely be in the top 10, and political science in the top 15-20.

i think econ is number ten, and politics 20...also, international relations is in the top ten, i think...

philosophy #1

the main problem is not the financial aid (althought that comes in a close 2nd and part of the reason for the main problem) is its horribly low retention rate of 90%. Most top 25 schools have 98-99% retention rates from freshmen to sophmore year. the retention rate kills nyu in the rating system
