According to forbes:
Salary for
Patriots' Bill bellichick = 2.5million
Colts' Tony Dungy = 3.6 million
the highest paid college football coach is bob stoops and nick saban who gets 3.5million annually.

Why bother paying the millions to activate the release clause for les miles while we could use that as signing bonus to lure bellichick.. we are the richest schooll among top football programs (way ahead of any schools in terms of endowment), so let's splash the cash, pay bellichick 4million a year to coach for us with that signing bonus..hey..it's unlikely but at least try...bellichick can outcoach any college football coach including pete carroll or jim tressell easily..we could easily get the money back from the payout from BCS bowl games anyway... (average of 17-18 million per team for BCS bowls, how bout let's say including a 5million incentive bonus for getting into the BCS bowls? )

There is no way we are going to pay that kind of money for a football coach. Let alone, why would these guys want to leave their hugely successful NFL programs for Michigan?

I'm pretty sure Miles' buyout clause is around $1.2 million. He's a Michigan guy, and I think if he is given the chance to coach Michigan, he will take it.

if oklahoma and alabama can pay 3.5million, i dont see why we cant pay 4 or more. plus the BCS payout is guranteed if we get into the bowls, why shouldnt we use part of the payouts as incentive to lure the best coaches?

"Let alone, why would these guys want to leave their hugely successful NFL programs for Michigan?"
everyone has a price

here's a thought: pete carroll. usc is having a down year, michigan will pay him more, and he'll get to coach in a state that actually has seasons! i heard mich was planning on making a huge offer to jeff tedford at the end of the season as well.

^ Bah, the way Tedford has handled the offensive play calling in recent games, Michigan can have him. Standing on the sideline with his "open menu-sized" playlist...the offense is too complicated.

I also heard rumors that Tedford is being courted by Texas A&M, as well as Jimmie Johnson.

Pete Carroll will not be coming to Michigan. He is way too much of a wiener to come to any school up north. Not to mention, it isn't hard to bring in a top 5 recruiting class every year when you are USC: great weather, beautiful women, etc.

Anyways, I think Lloyd Carr is done after this year. He hasn't salvaged anything, his job was never in danger.

So the Lloyd Carr bashing has gone this far because of one loss to a D-II team that's probably as good as those crappy D-I teams that anyone from the top25 can lose to but still won't drop that much in rank

Right..and just because App State might be good as some of those bad D-1 schools, the loss all of a sudden becomes okay? And please, people don't want Carr gone just because of this one game, it is because of a succesion of failures displayed by Coach Carr and his staff over the last few years.

Oh and we have no chance in hell of getting Bellichick or Dungy. But that doesn't mean we should just go grab Miles either, there are better candidates out there.

Bill Belichick is not leaving New England. You should enjoy Mr. Tom Brady, a Michigan Grad by the way, winning Super Bowls and breaking records. I know I am.
