Why Mt Holyoke?

I don't know where you get your statistics from, shupa, because the CB reports a 94% retention rate. At Experience, I met a handful of firsties and all but one did not even consider transferring. The one who did consider transferring got into her school, but is still undecided whether she will go or not.

americangypsy, to me Mt. Holyoke is super-isolated. I'm city-centric (I've spent my entire life in NYC!), so it's just a complete change. I won't have much of a problem with it, but it will definitely be a difficult adjustment. I'm used to everything being open 24/7 and being able to use public transportation regardless of what time of day it is (though I don't really use it much for anything other than school-- I live in Queens, so I rely on being driven around some places :)). Anyway, yeah, I find it to be isolated. It's okay though. I'll deal. I love the school enough and there are enough things to do on campus that I won't feel like I'm living in a bubble. :)

2014: update: Freshman retention rate is 92%. 14% do transfer. And looks 100% of the remaining students graduate in 4 years.
Looks like the admissions/screening process has improved over the last decade. My daughter went to an all girl’s high school, and knows that boys can be a distraction. Keeping shopping and ‘social life’ 15 mins away in Amherst, is perfect. It also seems a lot of kids have cars, so don’t think this it will be an issue.

Thanks Educ8or: We come from a small town on the Cape so everything is 15 minutes away lol. D is applying to MoHo and I think their stats are wonderful, not to mention keeping those distractions 15 minutes away as well. Better to have to look for fun/trouble than to have it on your backdoor step.

NEPatsGirl–free buses make it easy to get to distractions when wanted/needed. But when you want to study, being in a quiet little town can be a good thing!!

Are the terms “distractions” and “social life” code for “boys”? If so then yes, no boys residing at MHC. However there are plenaty of non-homework related activities and even parties on campus.

For shopping (re-supplies) the as mentioned above is easy and FREE!
