So stupid

If you don't need financial aid, don't apply. Problem solved.

By the way, the FAFSA (FREE Application for Federal Student Aid) is FREE.

Even if you don't qualify for aid (how do you know you don't qualify if you haven't applied?) filing the FAFSA can qualify you to get unsubsidized Stafford loans - they are better than private loans.

I always recommend folks complete the FAFSA at some point. You never know when an unforeseen circumstance (loss of parent income, illness, etc) will put a strain on your finances and ability to pay for college. If that happens, it is better to already have the finaid forms on file so that the school can reevaluate your situation. The last thing you will want to do if there is an issue is complete the FAFSA.

In addition, some schools will not allow you to apply for financial aid in subsequent years (institutional aid) if you do NOT apply your freshman year. AND some schools require these forms for consideration of merit aid as well.

Plus, do you realize that work study and loans are financial aid? Many students seem to think that financial aid is just grants. If you will need to borrow loans or if you would like to be considered for work study money, you will have to apply for financial aid.

That said, you do not "have" to apply. I don't know of any school that will refuse to admit you if you haven't applied for financial aid.
