why no interview?

Why does Stanford not offer interviews? I don't mind either way, just curious...

Probably because they get too many applicants.

lol, they dont wanna bug their alumni

The "official" reason that former Dean of Admissions Robin Mamlet gave was that interviews tend to be misleading regarding the applicant's character. I think that's pretty awkward...in my opinion, it's much harder to fake your character in a live interview situation than on sheets of paper that you have months to prepare. But hey, the unique philosophy is what makes Stanford a cut above the rest =)

Yeah, an interview would be cool. My other ones have allowed me to learn so much about the school that I would never be able to find looking off websites.

it might be because they just don't care about a interview. i'm sure all colleges place MUCH more weight on teacher / counselor recs than interviews. i guess stanford doesn't think that an interview is worth the trouble because of how little information they would give? from what i've heard, the only time a interview will matter is if the applicant is completely condescending, or has absolutely no social skills.

Well, they make all this talk about personality and character being so important. I think that if they really meant that, they would have interviews. One of the reasons why the S comes after the HYP.

Interviews are not given that much weight even at HYP, so Stanford decided to get rid of it altogether.
