<p>If you want to apply to Ivies, believe me, no one is stopping you. And if you really want to go to one, even if you think you have no shot at getting in, my philosophy is that it doesn't hurt to apply... better to apply and be rejected than to spend the rest of your life wondering "what if." Definitely apply!</p>
<p>But be aware that is it MUCH easier for a California community college student to get into Berkeley because they are required to accept a large number of transfer students by law... unlike other private colleges. Also, the Ivies will care about your high school record and SATs unlike the UC schools when transferring. But seriously, reach for the stars... you never know what might happen.</p>

<p>The obvious reason, for a California resident, would be cost... unless there would be serious need-based financial aid at the Ivy.</p>
<p>A second reason would be the recognition that an Ivy is not, per se, a more shining star than a top UC.</p>
<p>just give it a shot to your target school no matter what it is!
