but would going to NU undergraduate give you a better chance of acceptance @ Kellogg?
Would it be better?
[/quote]

better than what? acceptance to kellogg is going to be largely contingent on your job, not your undergrad. will northwestern help you get a good job in finance that will lead to consideration by kellogg? yes, if you put in the effort to do well here.

Thanks elsijfdl
what kinds of job would an NU Economics/ international relations major have?

P.S.
you guys are very helpful!

depends on what you go into. companies that recruit on campus range from investment banks to management consulting firms to technology consulting firms to marketing firms to large corporations like target.

As an econ major you will be privvy to an interview with any one of those types of firms as long as you have a solid GPA. From there, it's up to you.

bluesweetie, SESP is amazing and I can answer any specific questions about it you might have (reply or PM me). I'm kind of obsessed, if that isn't clear from those linked threads Sam Lee posted, where I replied to all of them :)

As for the "student divide," it's just like in regular life. Engineers hang out with each other because they can study together and are always in the same classes/buildings, theater people can bond easily, etc. But it's not like a war between different factions. I am friends with some theater kids and every time I hang out with them I'm like "theater kids are awesome!", but they're just not my primary social circle.

"I've heard "town-gown relations" are bad. Is it true that the people of Evanston really don't like NU's presence in their town?"

The town-gown relationship issue is a political one only, and it doesn't impact your everyday NU student going about his business at all. Trust me, the merchants in Evanston are more than happy to take your money, LOL.

"but would going to NU undergraduate give you a better chance of acceptance @ Kellogg?
Would it be better?"

No. And I really don't think it's wise to be thinking about Kellogg (or any MBA school) as a high school senior / soon to be freshman. A million things could happen between now and when you have to make that decision.

I went to the Kellogg evening program (downtown) and a lot of NU grads were there with me, but that was simply because a lot of NU grads had really good jobs in the Chicago area and employers who were (like mine) willing to pay some / all of an MBA, so there you have it. Getting into Kellogg isn't like getting into law school or med school, IMO. They are looking for different things -- and one of them is typically job experience.

thanks

hows the social scene compared to schools like : U of I, UIC etcc

There are a million threads on the social scene, including one active one. Use search :) But in short: it's fine/something for everyone/etc.

I'm so glad that these threads are here; they just make me more excited!

It's so funny--I'd applied to NU at the last possible minute on a whim, and then promptly forgot about it, even accidentally leaving it out of the list of schools I applied to when people asked me, and then when I got accepted and did some research, I just fell in love. I couldn't be happier.

if u know NU is your school, is it good to apply Early BINDING descision?

That's great, RhapsodyinPink. I had a similar situation- I had my list of schools ready and my parents were like, "oh, maybe you should apply to Northwestern." It ended up being one of the only schools I got into (I only applied to four- ack!) and, in hindsight, a perfect perfect fit for me.

djperez, I'd say yes- as long as you are a) SURE that you want to go there, and b) comfortable with whatever financial decision you will receive, if you're applying for aid.

thanks dfleish...
i visited NU and liked everything, EXCEPT THE WEATHER!!!

hey how school spirited is NU
like do people go all out in sporting events??

Content Not Found | Facebook

That'd be a fairly common situation.

And no, I'm not in that picture.

Also, they were there VERY early. The section usually fills.

Is it common for NU students to go graduate @ schools like Stanford, Harvard, Yale ...etc

How is premed at Northwestern?

Also, does NU publish stats of acceptance rates of their premed students into med schools across the country?

I don't remember the exact figure, but NU's med school placement is incredibly high, at least 80%. Pre-med at NU is very rigorous, but very effective.
