Why on earth is the science curve usually the harshet?

It's ridiculous and doesn't make any sense to me. On one of the science tests getting 3 wrong was even a 30!

Maybe i'm stupid and just really bad at the science section, but I definitely find it the most difficult mainly due to the time pressure, the fact that I'm exhausted after 3 sections, and the fact every 1 out of 4-5 questions you actually have to read and find out. There's actually a lot of pure common sense involved in some of the questions and don't directly tell you in the passage (which is hard for me sometimes, as I'm usually looking for the answer. It also requires you to fully comprehend the experiment!)

It was the hardest for me this time. I skipped the one with 4 hypothesis and guessed

^ That’s the general consensus (that it’s the hardest). However, the act makers decide to make it the most ridiculous curve for some reason.

dat ACT insecurity. They ashamed of the fact they have a science test that requires no science knowledge, so they make it hard. (Actually idk lol)

I used the “jump around” strategy for science this time around and it seemed to help quite a bit. I knocked all of the easier passages out of the way and left the conflicting viewpoints passage (aka the one with four hypothesis) for last. Had like 7 minutes to do that one alone and was able to make some sense out of it. Made it a little harder to keep track of how my pace was moving since I wasn’t going in order, but it definitely helped me somehow.

Everyone says it doesn’t require any scientific knowledge, but I think that after taking AP physics and AP chemistry, it is SO much easier understanding some of the experiments just because you have some basic understanding of what they’re trying to do.

But I think it may be jumping to conclusions to say that science is the hardest for most people because I run into a lot of people that say science is really easy.

I hated that science section! I guessed on so many because there was NO TIME. And the worst part was I would probably have done really well on it except there was NO TIME. At some point it stops testing science and starts testing brain efficiency and test taking strategies.

I think I failed that section. The rest of the sections were almost perfect but science I failed.

Oh my gosh sparkle I felt exactly the same way! Like I understood everything and nothing even seemed very confusing but I just needed more time. It probably brought me down from a 34 or 35 to a 31 :(

None of this made sense. Haha but really. After math and english I was like, this is good… But then science came and I was doomed, especially with timing… If -3 is a 30, then… that is terrible, haha

I had hardly any time left with about 12 questions to go, and I STUPIDLY got confused between SAT and ACT where SAT takes marks off for wrong answers, so I didn’t guess anything and left them…the one I did answer I think were mostly right though. I was just so frazzled after rushing to finish reading on time, definitely retaking

the million dollar question

The science curve is often the hardest to predict. In the Red Book, there are curves where -1 is a 34, and others where -1 is a 36. For this one, I am assuming that the curve will be generous. I am guessing that:

39-40 will be 36
38 will be 35
36-37 will be 34
and so on

That is a complete guess. But even on here, where it seems the best test takers congregate, everyone said that science was really hard. I’d take that as a sign of the curve being generous.

I don’t think that I got more than 4 wrong. I did the jump around strategy, as that seems to help. I did all of the 5 question passages first, and guarantee that I got 15/15 on those. One one of them was Hardy-Weinberg, which I know well, as I was in AP Bio. I know that I got 7/7 on the Viewpoints, as that was about neurotransmitters, which I know extensively about, due to AP Bio and AP Psych. I made some educated guesses on some of the 6 question passages, leading me to believe that I got a 14/18 on those. If I am correct, then hopefully I may have gotten a 34 on science, and I expect as low as a 30.

There’s actually one test in the red book where -2 on science is a 36 (the same is true for math on that test). Although that generosity is rare, that science section in the red book was easier than yesterday’s, so we can hope.

I spent so much time on the first two experience while I found it hard to understand. I found the last one easy but I didn’t have time:(

For the 5 question passages do you guys read at all or just go straight to the questions and only look at the graphs and tables?

Well, I was reading because I figured I would have to understand the background information to understand the trends in the charts and graphs, but now I think I should have read the questions first and then skimmed.

Just go straight to the questions because a lot of the background info is irrelevant to the questions.
