Hey guys have you guys written the Why Penn Essay for the 09 Admissions?
I dont know how to start it.. anyone have suggestions on how to start off?
Should i be creative about it? I was thinking of associating Penn to my experiences traveling around the world..

If you are so interested in Penn, shouldn't this be the easiest essay to write?

Don't do the travel thing. FAIL.

If you can make it work, fine. But a lot of people do travel-esque essays and fail miserably.

Be honest and upfront,

Yea Sesquipedalian's completely right. Traveling essays are so trite. Please don't make the adcoms kill themselves.

thank you so much you all! maybe i should expand on an experience that i sought when i was in the leadership in the business world program at wharton?..

Just go with whatever is genuine, form the heart, and sounds like your voice. That's all that matters.
And just a hint, don't try to make your essay sound modeled to what you think they'd like to hear.

It doesn't even really need to be creative, if you don't want to do it that way. I wrote a fairly straightforward essay just expressing my interest in Penn's various offerings, and connecting it to things I had already done, and things I wanted to accomplish and what I would do to contribute to the campus life.

write about anything relating to penn that you'd like.
i really want to go there, so it took me about half an hour to an hour to write out a really long essay. it should be easy if the interest is truly there.
good luck.

why pen? because i can't find a pencil

"It was a dark and stormy night...".
I agree with Post #6.

i wrote about how at first, i didn't like penn, but then fell in love once i sat in on a class and everything. and mine was straightforward, but i'm a good writer so my voice came through well. if you really want to go there, just write about what makes it so good. treat it like you are having a conversation with someone and they asked why penn?

also Rogue90, did you know that they say the pun is the lowest form of wit? I'M JUST SAYIN'.

kelllesta, sense the tone, im kiddin. but i like your way of writing that essay

I just got in
and i wrote a really creative one

its about art and all
and i talked about the museums and the artworks that i want to go see and stuff

i thought it was a strong essay b/c my sats weren't ideal, and it was b/c of my essays that got me in

traveling where? i think it's okay as long as you talk about it from a really creative perspective, have lots of simile and metaphors that can relate the two

jy1211, you got into Penn already? I thought they didn't release ED notifications yet.
