How is the best way to approach the Why Penn essay without regurgitating the info on the Penn website?

You shouldn't have to ask that question.

On a scale of 1-10 for the quality of a question, this post easily ranks a -3

I believe that the best way is to attempt to be creatvie while being yourself, what about penn attracts you and what makes you a good "fit"

Wow, there are a lot of a$$holes on this forum. I asked the question because if I just listed all the resources I found interesting in Penn, then I might bore the admin officers reading my essay. How is that a stupid question?

btw, thanks tennisjump for giving a decent reply.

the first two responses were worded as such because tennisjump's answer should have been blatantly obvious.

of course they want to know personal details, the unique attraction that penn holds for you and that you have to penn.

not just "oh, the quad is pretty," or "i really want to take advantage of the learning resources center," (some such bs answer), but "i got really interested in research in high school, and i want to use penn's resources to get involved once i'm there."

I guess you could honestly talk about what about penn attracts you and relate to it. The important aspect is how it's a good fit. So it should be about you, not as much about penn. The admissions officers know what the school has to offer, they just want to learn about you.

Also nice to show you've actually been to the campus and experienced Penn in some meaningful way.

Of you could be like me and only talk about the academics. I wrote about a program I didn't get into, a minor that actually doesn't exist, and a language that I'll never take. Hurray ED legacy preference.

I wrote a single paragraph saying I loved Penn State but am really shooting for Yale, and questioning Lee Stetson's sexual orientation. Hurray for having a building named after me.

-Bob Huntsman

I just wrote about why I wanted to go to Penn. It was actually an easy essay. If you find yourself "regurgitating info" or searching for reasons, then I guess the adcoms will wonder why you should be accepted as opposed to someone else who clearly shows that they want to attend for more passionate reasons.

if you want the easy way... just name drop a couple of professors/buildings/restaurants in the area and you'll be fine.

and be sure to mention "cheeseteaks"
