There are UIUC, Umich, carnegie mellon and other higher ranked engineering schools but why do peopel go to Pratt?

coz its gud and well amazing in terms of its program .. as per rankings.. its going up at a very promising steady rate....

Some students aren't just looking at the standings of the engineering program--they are looking for other features in a university and college experience. Duke is an outstanding university with strong academics and a wonderful all-around appeal for those seeking the total college experience.

If you're looking for biomedical engineering, Duke is one of the premier programs, and just announced that they have hired a scientist from Johns Hopkins to be their nanotechnology leader. Pratt tripled their space with the spectacular construction of new buildings that opened Fall '04 and, Kristina Johnson, the dean, is brilliant and energetic. Things are getting better and better with the school of Engineering!

bandmom hit it on the head - we're a great engineering school with a great liberal arts college just up the hill -- small enough that you get personal attention but large enough that you can do pretty much any cool thing you want. Not a bad combination :)

The other thing is that if you're not 100% sure you want to be an engineer and might want to transfer, Duke's almost-unparalled BME program and also-almost-unparalled undergraduate arts and sciences program make for a pretty serious 1-2 punch.

And it's very, very easy for students to transfer back and forth (and back and forth again, if they're so inclined).
