I applied microbiology as my 1st major, biological science as my 2nd major. Why am I admitted to pre-biology? I am a freshman applicant.

mine says that too (even though i was waitlisted) and it’s because for the first 2 years its not very specific, just general. i think once you begin junior year it’ll drop the “pre” that’s just my theory though

same here, I got accepted into pre-bio, not bio, but I think the person above me is right.

Pre-bio is the major that everyone who is majoring in some type of biological science gets into. You are in pre-bio for the first 2 years and then you declare into a type of specialty, I’m pretty sure it branches out to like 6 different kinds of biology, including micro. The reason why they have a pre-major for some majors is just to weed out the kids who aren’t serious, they require all students to take the same pre-reqs. Once you complete the pre-reqs you’ll be able to declare your specific major

So is pre-biology like an EXTRA two years before you start your actual BS/BA or is it just a title for freshmen and sophomores like what bookworm522 said?

go to the undergrad page of the UCSB biology department and click on the link labeled pre-biology. Your answer is there.
