I have vistited the campus, and although the tour was rather bland, I'm still okay with giving a university such as Northwestern the benefit of the doubt. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there, possibly current students, alums, or just advocates for education, who could pass on a opinion or two...Any replies would be great.

northwestern

If you can't answer this question on your own, especially after a tour, then you probably shouldn't apply.

Handyandy, you beat me to the answer. I was going to say the same thing.

Great question. Maybe you shouldn't apply. After all, I bet the NU adcom would be asking itself, "why the hell should we admit bbarnett21"?

If you felt the atmosphere was "bland," then it's probably not a good fit. I know this doesn't answer your question, but it may help.

I'm an ED applicant, and I definitely loved it when I visited. The tour wasn't GREAT, but I took a few hours outside of the regular tour to just walk around and sit in on a few classes. I liked it a lot, so maybe you would find a better fit at a different type of school...?

There's no use forcing yourself to apply (and waste the money) to a school that you're not really passionate about. I visited NU and loved it. The school itself is great, the campus is awesome, and you can't deny the coolness of being in Chicago(granted, the traffic sucks).

Its okay to not be thrilled with a well known school. You need to apply where you can see yourself living for the next four years.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I never wanted to release the impression that I wouldn't be totally enthralled with going to Northwestern. From everything I've learned about the school, their intellectual body, and social community, I only get more excited about the prospects of possibly applying, and/or attending the university. What I had meant in my original post was more of an inquiry for additional data. It's apparent to me now that it looks more as a questioning of "Why do I have to apply to Northwestern?", but instead I was wondering if out of all the educated minds scanning these pages, someone could possibly give me something I hadn't come across. I had hopes of recieving personal quirks, stories, and other extra information that I hadn't had the oppurtunity to come across yet.

In response to one of the replies about you spending extra time to roam the campus, I want you to know I did the exact same thing. The atmosphere was dampened by a break in schooling, but excitement was still high as I walked throughout the streets of Northwestern.

I want it to be known that I have every intention to apply to Northwestern, with hopes of securing my place in a supreme intellectual environment, one that I could social, mentally, and physically learn and succeed from.

With all that said, and hopefully my true colors are shining through now, if anyone does have any personal information (anything they don't tell you on the tour, stuff you can't find on the website, what truly makes a college career a memory one cherishs for the rest of their life), please share.
