I got accepted a couple of weeks back into McCombs and never really considered Austin too much before that. What would you say are some of the best reasons to attend McCombs versus some of the other colleges out there? Opinions from current students are needed :)

are you instate? and what are your other options?

@abbymohiostate with your stats, if you are considering McCombs, I would hope you applied to BHP and perhaps Plan II. Getting in those honors programs for someone OOS becomes a very big draw. These honors programs compete with elite schools for top students.

@MyLongHorn I’m OOS from Ohio, as of now got only into McCombs (deferred from UMich, no other U.S. results yet!) and a few universities in London but applied to another 10 regular decision in the U.S. (mix of HYPSM, CMU/UPenn, and state schools as well) so I guess I’m in the preliminary stages of deciding

@lots2do I did apply for BHP! Oh okay, thank you for putting a little perspective into comparisons against other elite schools.

Unless your family is rich. I don’t think it is wise to attend McCombs with OOS tuition.

@abbymcohiostate I am very surprised that with your stats and test scores and gpa you were deferred from U Mich…

@TinTintoo I was a bit upset that I was deferred from UMich as well, but I did submit on the last day and had some admission materials arriving late (around Christmas-time) due to a school mixup so a lot of other factors may have also influenced that as well

@Foafoa Is the tuition significantly higher than that of other schools? I am applying to mostly OOS schools so nearly all of my options are OOS tuitions.
Also what are merit scholarships like, since I probably don’t qualify for need-based.

Not much merit except for a few, high profile scholarships.

I wouldn’t think UT would be more expensive than UMich for OOS.

@Lizardly got it. Do you happen to know of UMich is any more likely to give merit scholarships?

Also looking to see if anyone is attending McCombs and personally has an idea of the curriculum and opportunities available for students to take advantage of.

idk if UMich is more generous. I have a STEM kid at UT who got a little merit money. Other kid is looking at McCombs, very tempted but not decided.
McCombs has great placement for after graduation. If you get in BHP, it is even better. And you get to live in Austin!
McCombs has a popular masters of accounting program. Those students place well, too. (And you get to live in Austin five years.) I think there is a financial consulting or analyst program for both BHP and non BHP. No Friday classes. But you are supposed to use that day off to intern, work, volunteer, do something besides sleep off your Thursday night.
Texas is a growing state, lots of opportunities. You could come be a part of it. Austin is a great town for young people, also full of live music, sports, all kinds of entertainment, including interesting food and culture.
Is there an undergrad business major at Mich? Do you have to apply for that separately, like after you have been at the school for a few years? I am not familiar with Michigan.
Search quora for info on UT business. There are some interesting discussions there. I am afraid a lot of it is Texas kids debating whether or not to leave, though, and so they have that low tuition to weigh.
Mccombs had a 100% job placement last year it’s an amazing business school.
UT costs 45k oos and Michigan costs 60k oos. Michigan’s job placement was 92%. It would seem that mccombs would be the best option. Hook em Austin is the greatest city ever
There is scholarship money in McCombs that is not related to the “high profile scholarships” mentioned above. I know this first hand.
My child is a freshman and we cannot say enough good things about McCombs and BHP. Career Services in McCombs is top-notch, and the mentoring and opportunities for interaction with career events even as early as freshman year are very impressive.
Absolutely the career services are the best man. So many events and internships to sign up for
Thanks guys! I think Austin is a great place after visiting recently, and I really value mentoring and Career Services so those were huge plus points for me as well.
