Why should I choose U Pitt?

Hey guys, I'm an OOS student and considering University of Pittsburgh.
My stats are:

1370/1600 SAT, 3.9 GPA, all 5s on four AP classes, and three college classes, decent amount of EC's and volunteer hours.

So does anybody have an idea how much MERIT aid I would get? I don't qualify for financial need based aid.

And I'm going into business, what have you heard/experienced with the business school?

And last but not least, general question, what's your favorite thing about UPitt? Why did you choose it/why are you considering it? And whats the worst thing in your opinion?

I think your SATS are a bit low for merit money. Usually, in the past, people with 1400 have gotten $10,000 a year for four years, and those with 1450 and above get full-tuition scholarships. Those are NOT guaranteed, though. What’s your state? I have a feeling that Pitt wants to recruit kids from states not well represented in the student body. So if you’re from the West Coast, that might help you.

Can you retest?

I’m from Hawaii, but I’m not going to retest, I’m applying too early for that. They did send me a letter offering to pay $250 and hotel fees of my travel charges to visit them, so I assumed they were rly interested.

i am also wondering how much merit money i will be able to receive as an OOS applicant.
I have a 1450 SAT CR+M.
My ACT composite is a 34 with the Math being a 36 and reading being a 34.

full tuition??

Pitt looks for a rigorous curriculum at competitive high schools. Lurknessmonster is accurate with what she says. The scholarships are not guaranteed by any means and they seem to be getting more competitive with the economy where it is.

The application is simple and it is rolling admissions. You would probably hear about any merit aid by Christmas, which would allow you some time to visit.

Vikings–GPA?

3.948 uw school doesnt weight
decent ECs + a great essay and two solid letters of recommendation.
Upitt is my top choice of my safety schools i just hope i can full tuition otherwise my instate public (purdue) will b cheaper. And northwestern might not give much FA…

Nothing is guaranteed especially since more students are applying in hopes of landing one of the full tuition scholarships. I am sure Pitt can be more selective with the increasing applicant pool. Just apply early and see what you get :)

As others have said - APPLY EARLY. It seems the money gets tighter as the year goes by.

THose who applied later seemed to get less or no money than those who applied earlier with simiiar stats.

Good luck!

early like by the end of august?

If everything is in order why not?

We applied early October - was nice having that early acceptance in. Made the wait for everything else that much easier.

ok cool. and merit scholarships notifications come at the same time as acceptance letters? and what about UHC stuff?

As far as I remember, eligibility for UHC, if applicable, is stated in the acceptance letter. Scholarship notification, if awarded, arrives about a week or two after the acceptance letter.

Acceptance to Pitt and Honors College arrived the same day (they were dated a week apart). Scholarship awards arrived about two weeks later.

DS submitted his application on a visit during the summer.

My D applied at a summer visit, got accepted in October, into honors same time—and then, we waited and waited and waited. Found out she got a 10k/year scholarship in February I think it was. Late February. Really had given up by then. So–if you don’t hear in a month or even a few, don’t give up!

She wound up going elsewhere, but Pitt was a close 2nd.

Good luck.

as an OOS student if I got full tuition it would the OOS tution right? not the 10K value for in state?

It can be either full tuition or $10,000 a year.

^^^ Yes, if you got the full-tuition scholarship, you would pay $0 tuition, even if you’re OOS. You would just be paying room, board, books, fees, etc.

perfect. funny now after 4 years of working my butt off it all comes down to whether they think i deserve full tuition or not.
Still not sure whether to send the 34 ACT (36 Math 34 Reading)
and/or the SAT of 1450 (CR + M)…thoughts???

my last decision before my application process is over for Pitt.

Vikings–seems as though the magic number people talk about on here is 1450. I have no idea about the ACT–it’s been too long. I do remember that mine was not as high as yours!

Seems like a very easy decision. Send both scores. My daughter got full tuition OOS a few years back with a 1490 and 30 ACT.
