Why should I choose W&M?

I'm also torn! Georgetown has been my number 1 for months, but I just found out that I got into W&M today. I hadn't heard anything from them since before I applied, so I just assumed I hadn't gotten in. Now I'm not sure what on earth I should do.
Thank God for JD and Turk. Honestly. That makes my day.

"And if nothing else can convince you... J.D. and Turk went to W&M. :-)"
You singlehandedly just convinced ME =)

J.D. and Turk went to W&M ?!?!
that just made my day
i'm also surprised I didn't know that!

who are JD and Turk?

obviously not a Scrubs fan (-:

Incidentally, Bill Lawrence got the idea for Scrubs on John Doris, who was his classmate at W&M.

This kind of advice will only go so far. I suggest you ignore all the worries about whether this school is more prestigious than that and try to find the best fit for YOU.

My daughter is a W&M freshman and was going through what you're trying to work out now. She also got into UVA and some big-name private schools. I had my doubts about W&M. I attended two bigger research-oriented universities that have full doctoral programs and found them to be really stimulating. I thought W&M might be a little sleepier. Also, I didn't think Williamsburg was much of a college town and it didn't seem to be very student-friendly. (Still my view.) However, my daughter is blissfully happy there. She's working hard, enjoying her classes and doing well. She's taken up a new and difficult language and is involved in activities. She was a full IB student in h.s. and worked extremely hard. She says the work load is about the same, but she finds her classes so stimulating that it's a lot more fun. (!) It's as if she were spinning her wheels in h.s., now has the chance to take off, and is taking advantage of the opportunity.

The students by and large seem down-to-earth, bright, up-beat, dedicated, and very sociable. My daughter isn't much of a partier but enjoys spending time with her friends when she's not working. There seems to be no shortage of things for them to do outside of class. Also, I'm impressed with the college administration in that they seem to take a more active interest in the welfare of the students than I was used to when I was in school. W&M has turned out to be a very good fit for her, and I'm happy she's there.
