Sorry, but some questions are just too big to answer. I’d recommend that you do a few google searches and read some old threads before asking such a general question. You’ll find that this type of question gets asked pretty frequently. Also, we’re called The University of Texas at Austin and basic statistics like the average SAT score of accepted students are readily available online. A 2040 is probably sufficient.

It’s an extremely good school, ranked like 45th in the nation. NYU is ranked about 33 if that gives you an idea. Admissions are competitive I’ve been told, but you have a really good SAT score. One of my friends didn’t have one as good as yours and she applied ad got wait-listed and eventually got in, but she was top 10%.

I got accepted as a transfer and I’m looking forward to going. You should join some Facebook groups/search around Tumblr to find out about Austin.

My poli sci teacher says it’s the San Francisco of Texas…

I mean, from what I know so far, this school is great for me:

I can get in state tuition (EXTREMELY important - no $ means I have to go to school in TX)

Great social + party scene ----> I really can’t go to a school that lacks a decent social scene

Great education

Large Jewish population —> I want to go somewhere with a lot of Jews. This is perfect.

I just need other reasons, such as things to do in Austin for fun, etc. But Yeah I’ll look at other threads.

Yeah, I live in the DFW area, and Tarrant county is the 2nd most conservative county in the US…So I’ve never been in a liberal area. I really can’t wait, I’m glad you asked this question, I need to know too.

Are you sure about the Jewish population? My BIL is Jewish and attended grad school at UT. He was miserable because of the lack of Jews. This was long ago, so maybe things have changed. He still talks about how little he liked UT and Austin (hard for me to imagine since I love both!).

A jewish boy wanting a large jewish crowd wanting a party scene. I expect a school with large jewish crowd to be more serious and less partying. :p

Too funny! UT has the largest Jewish undergraduate population in Texas, and being Jewish and a partier are not generally mutually exclusive! Back when dinos roamed, I lived across from the ZBT house. Many a night, my housemates and I would debate whether to “fight them or join them!” (“Fight them” simply meant putting in the ear plugs…that’s all we had before iPods!..and trying to study in spite of the noise. As for joining them, it wasn’t hard. We were female!)

For those of you wondering, yeah hahaha it’s a bit odd that I’m looking to party, maintain my religious faith, and still get a good education

I do have to admit that it is atypical for a Jew to want to be part of a party scene… but I’m not very religious. I just want a large Jewish population so that I don’t completely stray off of my religion…

Anyways, what are fun things to do in Austin? Why is this city considered so cool?

I’ve lived in Austin for my entire life, and am attending UT in the fall.

There is always something to do in Austin, in every category. It’s great if you’re active, with the water and parks and bike trails, like to party, love music, or pretty much anything else. There is always some kind of festival going down. It is rather liberal, but we are still in Texas, so if you’re conservative, it’s not like you’ll be an outcast. It is growing pretty quickly, which is a good and a bad thing, in that there are even more people with whatever interests you have, but also more traffic. 6th street is super popular for partiers. And if you don’t like noise, don’t live in West Campus; try north. Austin is hot most of the time, so you really have to like that. Campus is beautiful, in my opinion. Hope I’ve helped!
