My D has been accepted to Kelley School of Business at IU as a direct admit and just got accepted to OSU. I presume she will be a direct admit into Fisher College of Business. We are OOS for both. We visited both schools and liked them both, although she is leaning towards Kelley. Can someone convince me why she should go to Fisher and not Kelley? Assuming cost is the same, what are the advantages Fisher has over Kelley? Insight from a current Fisher student ( finance major preferred) or a parent would be helpful. Comments on size of business classes, internship opportunities, job placement office, etc. would be appreciated.

I’m a student in Fisher; Double majoring in Finance and Accounting. I can tell you that great opportunities will be offered at both these schools. I’m from the northeast and was deciding between OSU, PSU, and considered Kelley. What turned me away from IU is that the university as a whole is weaker than OSU. Additionally, it’s not a city like columbus. If she wants an internship while taking classes that is very possible but not very possible in Bloomington. Also, look into fisher futures at osu which is for the top finance students. I know one kid in it and he has a very high paid job lined up for when he graduates with a finance degree. I’m sure kelley has a similar program, but worth mentioning. Overall there both good schools. I think being in a city offers more for a business major and I think OSU is more well rounded school.

My son’s circle of friends with majors in acc, fin, and logistics all had internships and have jobs lined up. All graduating this May. All aac grads are with the big acc firms ( who interview on campus)

Any additional responses would be appreciated!

My oldest son graduated from Fisher in March 2012 and had multiple job offers months before he graduated. Fisher has an excellent career services office that not only has great internship and job placement opportunities, but helps with resume prep, interview techniques, etc. - even a mock business luncheon to learn how to handle yourself in that situation. His specialization is Logistics and Operations Management. He also completed the Six Sigma course - OSU is one of the few universities to offer that certification. He has been employed since he graduated and plans to apply to grad school at OSU. He (and we) have nothing but great things to say about Fisher.

His roommate (also a Fisher graduate) is in Finance and again had many job offers and now can pretty much name his own price. He manages hedgefunds and make 6 figures only 2 1/2 years out of school.

My youngest son (current freshman who went in undecided) is applying to Fisher in Jan - thinking either Info Systems or Accounting. I think he’ll do very well there.

I don’t know anything about Kelley, but have been extremely pleased with Fisher. We’re also OOS and both sons received the National Buckeye scholarship, which actually makes OSU more reasonably priced than our MA flagship school!
