Why Should Pomona Accept You?

Hey, I thought I'd give everyone an opportunity to pump themselves a little bit. I've heard some people on here say how much they want to be accepted, but why? Why should Pomona accept you?

I'll go first:

Pomona should accept me because I am energetic, passionate, and outgoing. I would love to swim outdoors with the swim team, and perhaps try out waterpolo. I want to "jam" with the other students on my flute, or find some other musical groups to join. I also want to take some art classes at Pomona. I want to study abroad in Japan and improve my proficiency in Russian and Japanese. The campus is gorgeous and the students are fun-loving. I applied ED to Pomona but was deferred, but I am still applying to RD because I really want to go to Pomona.

Now it's YOUR TURN! :D Go go go!

I feel an irresistable urge to write something ridiculously egotistical here...

...but I don't want to jinx myself. :D

Aww, okay. :) I just wanted to know what everyone was interested in, and why they were interested in Pomona.

...What a remarkably upbeat thread =]

I think Pomona should accept me because I have clearly expressed interest in foreign cultures (east Asia in particular) throughout my ECs, particularly my several exchange trips to Japan, as well as through my motivation to go out and take Chinese and Japanese classes from tutors/colleges since they aren't offered at my H.S. I am open to all cultures and look forward to trying tons of new things in college, as well as deepening my passions that I have already found. I would love to go to Pomona because I absolutely love the college consortium system, as well as the location and campus.

There, that wasn't too egotistical, right? :]

Yay Nihon go! Nope, it was perfect.

Why is everyone afraid of being immodest? Isn't that what the world (and college) is about? Putting yourself out there and convincing others that you are the best? :P

I want to be a master dancer on the Claremont Ballroom dancing team!

reasons y i want to go to pomona? i could go on FOREVER

its california!! I really just want to see the world have a different experience, and pomona seems like the place to be. Just an hour out of LA so I can still have the city. I've heard great things about their neuroscience program (my intended major) and the campus is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL. But I when reading about Pomona from various sources, the thing that's always stuck ot me the most is the people. The thing I always read is that they know how to balance work and play, they are motivated but they are not competetive. And trust me that's not easy to find here in the northeast!

Lol, Trunuyorker, I'm happy for you, and I hope you get in. But the question was "why should Pomona Accept you?" Not why you want to go to Pomona. Lol.

I think Pomona should accept me because of all that I have accomplished given coming from a low income background as well as other difficulties. I have been thorugh a lot and I have always dreamed of going to a top school like Pomona. Thats why they should accept me.

True, stefanysoccer, but why somebody wants to go to Pomona may be an excellent reason why they should be accepted there. :)

Touch

May I, A: steal this idea, B: post my reason for school X on the P thread?
Yea/Nay A/B?

I can think of one reason I won't be accepted, plenty of reasons why I should have applied, and unfortunately, two people who amount to the one reason I didn't [apply]. Starts with p and ends with t (well, an 's' for plurality). Any guesses?

froghorn, I think I know what you mean. I'm not completely happy that my D has Pomona on her radar screen (I have my reasons to doubt the academic quality of this school), but it is her choice, not mine. If she gets accepted, I'm sure it will make her extremely happy, and I will gladly buy a license plate frame that says "My kid and my money go to Pomona".

I know some kids who applied and were waitlisted at Pomona, but they moved on and are extremely happy at other schools. froghorn, there is a wonderful college waiting impatiently to admit a social and intelligent young person like you. Good luck!

Thanks BunsenBurner, I really appreciate your kind words. For my parents it's more about the distance than academic calibre. My mom drew the line at Pennsylvania and while I see her reasons, I have trouble (like any teenager would have) with such restrictions having been placed upon me.

because i love flip-flops!!!!!!!

Because Pomona is in California and I am a huge 2Pac, NWA fan. Dre, Eazy-e , pac i respect those guys and pomona should have someone who is able to represent their states by listening to west coast rap songs.

Because they need good-looking people like me. No seriously, I am. And humble people too. They also have only had one person from my state in... well... the last 10 years. They should accept me because they need me. Yeah.

Lol me too! :)

well, mainly because

i push and i push
i ride and i ride
tryin to survive on 95

how could they possibly deny me?

Well, Rick, with your skills, I don't think they can.
