Just that, I’d like to you, Brown’s students to tell me why Brown’s the best college for future leaders

please ^^

because it is

because future leaders need to make decisions, and at Brown, all the decisions about your life are for you to make.

because its so cool that none of us had to ask a stupid question like this because we were all cool enough to realize on our own how awsome brown is.

got it?

if you're in brown obviously you can answer that, but i live in Chile and want to go to stdy in USA so i have to ask stupid questions

I'll answer it. The most obvious difference about Brown, of course, what sets it apart, is the New/Brown Curriculum. It allows you to take any classes you want and to opt to take any class pass/fail. Students take charge of their own education. Now students at other schools, like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, UPenn, Cornell, and especially Columbia may not be intelligent or mature enough to be able to choose their own classes, which is why we let them keep their requirements, but the students at Brown are able to do so, and if you feel like you can do this as well, you should go to Providence too.

Brown’s Open Curriculum is really its main selling point. To see whether you’d appreciate all Brown has to offer, picture yourself in college. Now imagine that you can sign up for any classes you want in any departments without ever having to worry about satisfying requirements. If this idea makes you feel slightly nervous or unsure of yourself, Brown is not for you. If this idea excites you and seems obviously to be the way college should be, then you may just be a good fit for Brown.

Brown allows its students to make whatever they want out of their undergraduate education, and its culture is so liberal and accepting that pretty much anyone can find his/her niche here so long as that niche is not contingent upon any sort of widespread homogeneity. I think this incredible diversity, combined with the Open Curriculum and the beautiful location in Providence, made Brown the perfect choice for me.

It also happens to have fantastic undergraduate programs in Applied Math and Computer Science.

OMG! Can we please stop this annoying and childish comparing of schools!!! It was entertaining for the last 500 posts on “Brown vs. [Insert Ivy League College name here]”…but now it’s just getting old and tired…put it to rest, please!

BTW, nicolas.cdc, you should use the search tool to the right of your screen. It’s a very helpful feature when you feel the need to ask a question that is asked and (unfortunately) answered literally every single day. Sorry for being hostile—now I can honestly see why fireandrain and modestmelody get annoyed by these posts after a while. End of rant…

The search function is too obvious. If I ask the same question for the 12th time, I’m going to get the REAL answer.

You folks should stop being so hyper-critical of people who post questions that have already been asked. this is a forum. Spontaneous dialogue and back-and-forth communication is a good thing. If you don’t want to participate in the thread, then don’t. Someone with valuable information or a new opinion might see a new thread and offer up their thoughts. Please be kind and drop the self-importance.

Actually I probably complain about it as much as anyone. It has nothing to do with self-importance on our part but rather on the random people who fly through here. They assume no one has ever had the same thughts they have had because THEY haven’t thought about it before. A nice display of a lack of awareness.

They only hurt themselves when they don’t use the search function. They would learn so much more about Brown if they read all the other threads that would answer their questions.

What really bugs me is when someone asks a question that was already asked and answered that day in another thread, that is still on the first page – no search function needed, just reading the front page would do it.

Wow.

I didn’t even know there was a search option (I was looking for a text box, not a link TO a text box.)

That’s speaking from the POV of someone relatively new to CC. I hope it excuses at least SOME repetitive threads =)

(though I agree that repeats of questions posted the same day are a little toolish)

LOL you’re not going to be a future leader, don’t kid yourself

First of all, this thread is 3 years old, and while I agree that it’s bloody annoying how nobody uses the search feature, I’m pretty sure the OP’s made up his/her mind.
Secondly, there’s a list of Brown alums somewhere on Wikipedia. Like many other top universities, there are lots of people that ended up becoming a leader within their own expertise. Who are you to say who is or isn’t going to be a future leader? I don’t know if you were kidding or not (since I’m never able to sense sarcasm), but you’re a high schooler applying to colleges (like 80% of the people on this board), so please step off your patronizing high horse.

Ugh, sorry if this seems like a rant. I’ve just gotten sick of people making snarky remarks like that.
