how come so many of you guys apply to 10 different schools? thats almost $500 just in application fees.

Many people, including myself, are applying to highly selective schools, which are always a gamble. My list of schools, for instance, accept between about 18-30% of their applicants, while only two schools hover around 70%. All of the ones that have lower rates happen to be Reach, Reach/Match, or Match Schools. While, the high percetage rates are my safety schools. The good thing is that some selective schools (ie. Carleton, Grinnell, URochester, Hamilton, Colgate, Rhodes, etc...) waive application fees, if you apply online.

My list started with twenty, went down to six, and settled at 10 (6 at <30%/2 at 31-56%, and 2 at around 70%). Anyhow, I hope this answers your questions. :)

ditto- i'm in exactly the same boat, i'm applying to 17, although I already sent one app to a safety so if i get in, I won't send the other safety app in... so 16. woohoo.

hey, are carleton and colgate good schools?

17???? I hope you are using the common app, if not that would take up way too much time 4 me. I'll probably apply to about 8 or 9, i have 2 or 3 reach and the rest are match/safties.

Hmm, Ive only applied to Purdue so far lol. I was accepted in 3 days, so I dont think I need to apply to anymore. Most of those ivy league schools dont have what I want to major in anyways.
