Why Stanford is the Best!

Whatsup fellow '10ers,

This thread is devoted to how much better Stanford is over the rest of the superelite colleges.

--BEST ATHLETICS PROGRAM in the country; Do i hear Director's Cup 13 years running?

--STRONGER PROGRAMS OVERALL; Excels at the most broadest subjects. While HYP are noted for particular areas, Stanford excels at them all

--DIVERSITY; no other college even comes close

--CALIFORNIA WEATHER; self-explanatory

--LOCATED IN A LOVELY AREA; vast, beautiful landscapes, San fransisco, not in some grimy urban area like yale

-- MOST HAPPIEST STUDENTS ranked #1 Check princetonreview.com

--EMPHASIZES INTANGIBLES, CHARACTER, diverse EC's, great perspectives like no other....you can't get in being a soulless person with a 2400 SAT

--LESS ELITISM than the ivy league, especially the bastion of preppy, elitist kids, princeton

--HOTTER students (than HYP) hands down; don't even try to argue

--BEST SOCIAL LIFE (Do i hear Moonsplash, Exotic Erotic, Full moon in the quad?) compare to harvard's "fun czar"

--GREAT FINANCIAL AID; not stubborn like Yale's subpar finny aid offices

--MODERATE POLITICAL ATMOSPHERE I don't want to be only around raging liberals (yale), nor do i want to be surrounded by hardcore conservatives (pton)

--NICEST ADMINISTRATION I've heard so many good things about them. They actually care about the students. Not elitist or unapproachable like some at Harvard and Yale

--LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE just more relaxing, not crazy competitive as if it's the end of the world....chill, enjoy life

--BETTER CALENDER a quarter system means I can take more classes, go abroad without screwing everything up. Why do you think a third of stanford students can go abroad?

--BETTER OVERSEAS OPPURTUNITIES; probably because of the reason directly above

--ENTREPENEURSHIP ATTITUDE; We are going to change the world and make a difference

Stanford is a sick school. I hope we will see each other in 2006. Enjoy the holidays!

hellz yea. thanks for putting that great list together.

yea, great list. I heard that Stanford is one of the hardest places to get into, but once you do, people relax and it's not as competitive as the other cutthroat scary-academic ivies and stuff. so I think we'll be okay, especially little old undeserving me and my 2250. My friend with her 2380 and salutatorian status and everything is crying right now, and I"m not sorry!

haha purplerain666

BURN! "and I'm not sorry" haha

everyone of you guys who were accepted, earns it 100%. Stanford accepts kids for a reason, and stanford wants each and every one of you in its class!

hahahhaha we're all going to fail IHUM next year

"--STRONGER PROGRAMS OVERALL; Excels at the most broadest subjects. While HYP are noted for particular areas, Stanford excels at them all"

haha not to be a bummer, i'm all for stanford, but i think harvard pretty much has strong overall programs as well, excelling in everything too. you'd be saying the same thing if you got into harvard. (i'm not a harvard admit, i'm a stanford admit). but really, there isnt much of a difference between programs here and there, unless you start getting specific, like say... the psychology dept. (more renown at stanford)

but i completely agree with those other things haha

ajimmykid

"but i think harvard pretty much has strong overall programs as well, excelling in everything too. you'd be saying the same thing if you got into harvard."

Actually I'm not one of those college fanboys who say things that have no substance or proof. I've researched (you dont want to know for how long) elite colleges to find out which one was the best for me. And after all that research, I decided that Stanford was the best. I applied EA, and was accepted. If i had thought Harvard was the best for me, I'd be applying to Harvard, but it's not.

Stanford has the highest depth of quality in the most subjects.

Here is a highly respected report that substantiates that claim:

http://www.philosophicalgourmet.com/topresearch.htm

diamondT's right,y'all
we didnt' start worshipping STanford just b/c it's gonna be our alma mater now - i've dreamed about being a redwood for half my life, and right now, even if Harvard or yale accepted me, I wouldn't give a crap. Stanford's the one that I want. there's so much more than prestige - Stanford's way more than some trophy wife that'll look good on the wall of some office.

and i move we add free laundry and maid service to that awesome list, yo!

and of course, that's not to say Stanford's not prestigious - we're always 3rd or 4th place on all the national rank lists. So to sum it all up, we rock and our school rocks even harder. Go trees!

What ihum?

please tell me they have clubs. i mean nightclubs. lol! soo looking forward to turning 18 :P

omg so funny my birthday was yesterday. this was like the best 18th birthday present ever. and im pretty sure they do have clubs. you can always go to san francisco anyway.

true~! yayyy we're less than an hour away from a city if we wanna party! but we're always able to enjoy a nice atmosphere back on campus. niiice.

congrats to bahhumbugger...i wish my bday was yesterday. so how'd you celebrate? did you like go out and buy cigarettes? 'cause that's what I see myself doing.
from what i've been reading obsessively since thursday night, campus night life is so great no one really goes to san fran even tho it's only a 45 min drive. but that's a long time to wait to party. our campus night life is so much better than harvard's - did anyone hear about that tradition where the seniors kiss the freshmen under the moon during the first autumn quarter>? rocking

I've heard that there is no local night life- IE clubs- in Palo Alto, but there is more than enough to keep one busy and partyin it up on campus.
But as everyone knows, the SanFran scene is intense, and its always available.

Some of the people on this thread have been mentioning SF as a plus, but I've actually heard that it's rather hard to go to SF from Stanford (over an hour and hard to find transportation) and most students stay on campus. Supposedly, it's pretty self-contained. This is from a recent Stanford grad and most of the college guides I've read. I don't think they allow freshmen to have cars also, so it would be hard to get off campus.

an hour's not too bad if you're planning a day trip or something, but yeah, I've heard people stay on campus a lot too.

Buying cigarettes when you turn 18?
No way, 18 just screams "Scratch Tickets!!!!"
lol

My birthday was today and I received the acceptance packet in hand!
Best BIG 1-8 I EVER WILL HAVE!!!! (logistically)

aww, you barely legal people make me feel like a baby...i'm barely 17 and like a year away from embarking on my porn star career. but congrats. can't imagine a better present, except maybe mick jaggers popping out of a chocolate cake....naked.
