Why Stanford

Can someone please help me think of ideas as to why Stanford is a good place for me? To be honest, I actually abhor Stanford (I find the campus disgusting and the students pretentious), but my parents don't really seem to care and still want me to apply. I'm applying as an undecided major, so I can't go into "specialties" if you know what I mean.

Honestly, it can be a bunch of baloney sandwiches, but I just need something to go off of.

Well, so long as it's BS, does it matter if it's coming from us or you? :P

If you have no intention of going and don't care if you're accepted, just make it super terrible and cliche...aka, small class sizes, Cali weather, etc.

If you really hate Stanford/are feeling exceptionally bold, just blow it off...or actually, write 250 words on why you hate the school. Admission decisions can be crazy these days...maybe they will appreciate your fresh perspective. Oh...wait...that's not what you want.

Yeah...I'm actually in your exact position. Parents have been dreaming about Stanford since I was...5? Me...I'm more of a Dartmouth, Wellesley type of girl. Best of luck.

Why are you even trying to write a "why Stanford essay?" Aside from the obvious (not interested), Stanford doesn't even require one.

^Actually, it was added this year with the switch to the common app...unfortunately.

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. So you mean in addition to all the very specific essays, you'll need to do this one too? Good luck with that.

Even more ironic/coincidental: I'm actually dreaming about going to Dartmouth. LOL.

If you don't want to go to Stanford, write that you love snow, love New England, and want to enjoy the prestige of the Ivy League. Or you could be more obvious: Say you are applying because your parents insist.

If you honestly don't want to go to Stanford, write your essay so that your parents can't force you to attend there.

ahhaha i love these suggestions

I think it's funny that you HATE Stanford. I couldn't stand Dartmouth.

Not sure why. People are different.

Make a list of schools that you would rather attend than Stanford and submit that.

But it is smart, laid back kids in paradise with D1 sports and Grade A academics. I think it sounds awesome. But we are different.

Oh yes, it is. But I don't really like the Palo Alto area- to me, it just seems kind of pretentious and fake. To me, it was kind of reminiscent of Laguna Beach (the show which I watched once and wanted to vomit.)
