I understand it may not be the best engineering school but it doesn’t seem too bad IMO. Not sure why so many people seem to bash it, seen it some of these threads and elsewhere online
It’s definitely a great school. It just is roughly equivalent to UW Madison’s engineering school or Fordham’s in terms of selectivity. It’s just a lot of money for a super solid degree. Plus some people are competitive as*holes who will say it’s a “back door entry” to nyu. It isn’t, but hey, whatever helps them sleep at night, right?
Because paying for an engineering degree at NYU makes as much sense as paying $1000+ for a designer hoodie:

Because it’s nothing but a rebranding of Polytechnic Institute. Take an ordinary (though perfectly adequate) accredited school, slap the NYU name on it, and it’s supposed to be something special?
Way to bury the lead. Why didn’t you start with that little detail? A full ride to any accredited engineering school is worthwhile. The knock on NYU Engineering is that it’s just a branding effort to let NYU say they offer engineering, and to charge a premium price for the experience. With a full ride, that becomes irrelevant. It’s still a decent accredited school. Congrats and enjoy.
@Chardo lmao sorry about that. I just checked my financial aid and posted accordingly
Slightly off topic, but how much aid would a student need for a full-ride in engineering? A friend just told me her son was accepted with $50k + and they are wondering how much more they would have to pay. I told them to call the school, but I’m just looking for info for them. I had thought NYU was $60k +? Maybe the engineering school is different? Thanks!
@musicmom1215 nyu engineering is around 65k
well i received a full scholarship but NYU offers a full loan to everyone
Did you receive a full scholarship/grant that covers tuition, fees, room&board?
Or are you HEOP and they cover all tuition&fees provided you commute from home?
(“full loan” isn’t a thing. It’s just an expectation parents will apply andreceive loans on behalf of their child, which is NOT advisable and is NOT financial aid. NYU is stingy so they just make it look so to hide the fact they’re not giving actual financial aid.)
Can you post (or paste) your financial aid offer’s details?
Paying 70K for Tandon isn’t worth it (unless your parents are made of money and you don’t have a better/cheaper choice). But it’s quite a good school and getting a full ride there is FANTASTIC.
Do you have other affordable choices?
I also got into Tandon, and would have to pay around 20k a year. Would you place Tandon above a traditional engineering school like Stevens IT?
@MYOS1634 i got a full scholarship that covers everything
nyu has a weird set up for financial aid
@student1676 if u want the experience of the city along with the much more widely available internship, job, research opportunities that comes from being in new york i suggest Tandon.
Then yes, it’s an AMAZING opportunity.
It’s not MIT but its resources, the level of your peers, and programs, are excellent (above Stony Brook or Union).
Is it your top choice ? Are you looking for reasons to choose it over other universities ? Are parents or friends or the Internets giving you a hard time about it ?
If possible, can you describe your application (are you doing research, winning robotics contests…)
I got into the honors program at Tandon with 49k in financial aid and scholarships. I’m not sure whether I should go with Tandon or if I should go to other colleges i got into like Villanova or Rutgers. The main problem is I’m not gonna be getting a lot of financial aid past freshman year, so would it be worth it to attend Tandon without any financial aid after freshman year? This is for computer science major by the way.
Why would you not get much financial aid after freshman year?
@kennethslee Congratulations! Would you mind posting your stats please? I’m just curious because I’m applying this year.
