How long is the why swarthmore essay supposed to be? Since it didn't have a limit I thought it was just supposed to be a brief statement. Are 200 words too little?

Mine was about 700 words.

Since a short answer is typically 200 words, I'd think that 200's a little on the low side...I'd shoot for at least double that. I'm not sure how you can adequately show your commitment and love for Swat in that short an essay is all. :]

Mine was around 300 words. I wouldn't sweat it. If you have nothing else to say...don't say anything else! But do reflect on whether you've really said everything you want to say.

the application does say brief

400 words, i think thats fairly brief
write what you want really, dont write random stuff though, keep it why YOU wanna go

i had 648 words. i put many specific examples.

mine ended up being about 800 words. i cant help it. so many reasons. but it fits in the box, so i dont feel bad about it.

Mine was pretty short -- probably not much more than 250. I didn't know whether to fill up the whole paper or not. :?)

mine was only 200 too. dont worry.

Mine was 243 words...as long as you say what you want to say I'm sure you're fine.

Quick Question: My essay was 700 words. I know. Long. Is that bad? It was really good, I assure you. I had last years' supplement that said something about a page long or 500 words. I really don't remember...all I know is that I saw the word "brief" after I wrote it.

If it's good, it almost does not matter how long it is. Generally, it should fit on one page. I am sure it will be fine.
