When it's 8 max credits for English? So I got a 4 on the Language test, signed up for the Literature test anyway. But is there ANY benefit whatsoever to taking this second test?

If I decide to not take it, I will get refunded $69 (enough to pay for prom ticket) AND I won't have to go through the torture of taking an English test.

If I do cancel the Lit test, will my admission to UCSD be affected?

No your admission will not be affected. I got a 3 for AP Language, and I’m wondering the same question as you, if there is ANY benefit.

There may be repercussions for your school for not taking it, depending on the school (of course). Maybe I can get out of this test as well and perhaps get a refund.

if u cancel, ur admissions isn’t revoked…cuz it was “planned” tests anyways
but yea…other than just giving you elective credits, i dont see any benefit in taking the tests…cuz either one excludes u from the writing placement test. and u can only get up to 8 credit max for both tests. if u cancel they’ll give u a partial refund…i forgot how much tho.

If for whatever reason you transfer out of UCSD to another school, that additional AP test score may be important to put on a future application. Especially if that AP test score pushes you up into an AP National Scholar Award Category. Colleges love that distinction, especially the UCs.

Another,(I say this with hesitation) ‘possible’ consideration. If your HS teacher finds out you ditched the AP exam, he/she MAY use it against you somehow on your overall grade for the class. I don’t think technically a teacher could or would do that, but you never want to upset anyone who has control over your final grades. Teachers and schools are rewarded for how well their students place on AP exams.

AP exams free up space in your freshman year so you can complete college a little faster. It also makes you exempted from placement tests at the college.

AP exams are college credit if you pass them with the required score, meaning the classes you take at college will cost more than the AP exam itself. Add in the text books and everything, you will want to wish you taken all the AP tests you could that is important to you when you could have.

electives for nothing valuable. u just get 8 free units that wont clear u out of GE’s. Passing the AP will clear you from taking the entry level writing exam but more than that u just get more units that MAY aid getting an earlier registration time
