Why the D1-D2, S, etc?

I see a lot of posts where someone says “yea, my D went to school at Dartmouth”, or “My S1 went to Penn, and my S2 went to U of A”, or whatever.

I just don’t understand, is it that hard to type “daughter”, or “son”. Does this abbreviation serve some special higher meaning?

Just wondering.

D1 is certainly a lot shorter than “my first daughter”…or “the elder daughter, the one who goes to school at Dartmouth.”

Is it so hard to type “laughing out loud”? LOL. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know, it’s just this is the only place I’ve ever seen “daughter” abbreviated. It’s like the adults are trying to get into the whole text culture XD

@project21 agree 100%

I’ve seen H, W, D, and S used for family members for many years. This is not a new thing or a unique to college confidential thing.

It looks more to be a generational thing IMO

This question comes up periodically, and it always cracks me up. It’s OK for young people to abbreviate like crazy (you used “lol” yourself in a post), but older people can’t? Why does it bother you so much? You can stick to the High School Life and College Life threads if you don’t want to read posts from old people. But they MIGHT have some decent advice for you, lol.

nope, it’s weird for them to abbreviate. :smiley:
