They did get to the Music City Bowl - and won!

I bet applications went up a lot. I’ll bet money on that.

We have two kids @ V. A 4th year and a 1st year. I was in Nashville on buz last week and had dinner with them. Part of their conversation dealt with how many visitors - HS seniors w/parents have been there on campus tours this year. 4th year student said something to the effect that over the past 3+ years of being @ V, that the number of visitors looking at the campus seemed to have “doubled”. 1st year student said that on MLK Holiday (Jan 19th) that there were a number of “traffic jams” on the walk-ways/sidewalks due to all of the visitors. 1st year student said that on MLK Day, that he had 2 hours between classes and he normally would have walked from the main campus back to The Commons to eat/study but due to the “heavy traffic” on the bridge over 21st Street he just went to Rand. 4th year seems to think that many more kids are looking @ V due to theie new “no-loan” plan.

I know other schools did this in the past five years, but I think it’s obvious that someone in the administration decided to make a big investment by doing it as a great way to spend all our cash right now. The amount of applications this year probably beat last year by a huge number, a much higher percentage than other schools.

Talk about a good deal, we’ll be up to top 15 in no time.

Not a good deal to people applying who don’t have near perfect scores…

I love my luck in falling in love with a university a few years ago and then having my hopes and dreams shattered. The worst part is going be when I hear my friends get in when they haven’t even been there. Again, I’m just jealous.

Florida State University, here I come!

Does anyone have an educated guess? I vote 20,000 applicants.

Hilsa
Each time I read your posts, I get so sad. you have to keep the faith! Not eveyone who gets into Vandy has perfect scores and perfect GPA and a generally perfect life. I mean this in the most comforting way I can convey without speaking in person…
To get into Vandy anymore, unless you are more than perfect, you have to have visitied. THEY DO WATCH THAT.
somehwere I read on a thread on CC one of the reasons Vandy has become so popular and prestigiuos ( other then the obvious excellent-ness of it in general) is they are one of the only top 20 institutions that makes the student feel they are honored to have them at the university instead of the student being honored to be there. (even tho we are…)
Ive told you before, I did get in edI FOR FALL 2009. I am beyond thrilled, but I felt just the way you did before I got my acceptance letter. I wondered tho I knew I had all the to stuff get in, if it would matter, I was’nt stellar. But I know for sure, all the extra things I did to try to get admitted put me over the top.
hang in there.

My posts are so sad, because I’m a sad person. :P

Except not really… sort of. I think everyone by their senior year is atleast somewhat tainted by life. It builds character. =]

It’s this forum and the Vandy admissions blog that keeps me going, honestly. I must say, though, looking at the list of CC students applying to Vandy is very intimidating… but then I realize that this is CC and it’s not representative of the actual applicant pool.

From the Vandy admissions blog…

Regular Decision Application Update

As of today, we have received a total of 19,244 applications for the Vanderbilt entering class of 2009, the most ever received at Vanderbilt. We are humbled and excited by the growth of our applicant pool over last year, and we are looking forward to the tough task of evaluating this next Vanderbilt class. While the full scope of the quality of the pool is still being sorted out, I can tell you that similar to our ED pool, the RD pool looks like the most competitive and diverse we’ve ever seen. We are looking to enroll an incoming class of between 1550 to 1570 first year students. Our target date for mailing those decisions is currently late March.

Good news for us Juniors! With the economy in free fall, the applicant pool is sure to be down next year. This year feel at just the right time for Vandy. Economy was dropping but not in the state its in. Now, people are widely in agreement that it will be this way for the next 5 or so years at least.

Yeah, good for you juniors. :P

Though, the economy was shot to hell way before RD applications were due so I’d expect a similar amount of applicants next year… ESPECIALLY since Vandy has that no-loan financial aid package. That’s probably why it went up 3000 applicants this year.

The economy will be in 3x worse shape by next October-November than it was this past year. We are nearing a possible depression. Tens of thousands of Americans lose their job every week.

That statement is probably very likely.

Though, I still can’t see college applications going down that much, if at all.

Because we rock (and its easy to apply)
