So, I have a question. Stanford and Penn have Why Transfer (Main Common App Essay) and Why Stanford/Penn essay? So, are these supposed to be different. In my Why Transfer for Yale, I talked about how I ended up at MIT, why I don't think MIT is a great fit for me, and how Yale would be better. So, when these essays are separate - should I write in the "Why Transfer" about why I ended up at MIT and why I don't think it's a great fit, and then in the Why Stanford/Penn about why Stanford and Penn fit me better than MIT? It's all a bit confusing, so if you could clarify that would be great.

Yes, they should be different in the way you stated. See this similar thread:

Agree with entomom
Personally I think in terms of "why transfer", you should focus on why your current college cant meet your needs; towards "why X college" you need to write about why you think this college is a fit for you.
hope that helps!

My main concern is how do I prevent myself from sounding negative? For example, if I say "I find the student body lacking" and state my reasons would that be too negative?

Or if I state that I find the EC opportunity limited? Would that be considered negative?

Of course, I plan to go into great detail in my Why X school suites my needs.

EDIT

Can I write the essay in a way of explaining what I expected, How I tried to meet my expectations, and why I need to transfer?

To Javous,

My concern is sorta similar with you. umm, what about this, state I've tried to make it; however due to the limits/restrictions in current college, I couldn't complete my goals.
Of course, courses/majors consideration would be best.
