'Why Tulane' essay advice

So, I’m applying for transfer for the spring, and am currently working on my Why Tulane essay. I think I have a pretty good essay, wrote about how I fell in love with the school during a visit there. My question is how long would you make it? There’s a 3000 word limit on the common app… That’s quite long for an application essay. I’m currently sitting around 800. Is that too much or too little? Or do you think I’m at a good amount. Thanks in advanced!

It’s not the amount that matters, it’s the content. If you’re satisfied with what you’re saying, there’s no need to cushion it with words that don’t illuminate the essay.

The Why Tulane essay is optional, right? I’d say the fact you’re writing it at all is a good sign.

@WeLoveLyman it’s not REALLY optional.

I do agree that quality is more important than the length. Be sure to specify what exactly you fell in love with and why Tulane would be a good fit for you- don’t speak in generalizations.

I agree - You hopefully can provide something that is unique to your fit at Tulane. Something you experienced there, something that aligns to your strengths - showcase what you bring to the student and Why Tulane is the best fit and your top choice. Differentiate your app from what someone could write from internet browsing. Good luck

Thanks for the help everyone! I think I made a pretty strong argument there, and I think the quality is really good. Just need to look over grammar and trim some of the excess off. Appreciate the advice everyone!
