The answer is simple dudes. When considering which UC to attend, if you are looking at UCD, UCI, UCSD and UCSB go for UCD. Why, you ask? Simple, UCD has football, therefore, UCD is > UCI, UCSD, and UCSB.
The end…

lol 10char

i hate football

You are a nerd

Voiceofreason -- Football is by far the greatest sport.....but UCSB is way better than Davis. Santa Barbara has the beach and Davis has some cows. There is no question on which is the best UC. UCSB kills them all.....UCSB has the best location and the craziest parties!!!! UCSB also has the hottest chicks!

Gauchos > Everyone Else

Though if UCSB had the sports I wanted it would my clear #1.....but since it doesn't I've been looking at UW-Madison and UMiami

If a beach is your criteria why UW-Madison? UCSB is disgusting. Isla Vista has to be one of the ugliest, and most filthy places ever. UCD is close to everything, and there are a multitude of rivers close by for house boating and water skiing. The sports program is head and shoulders above UCSB, UCI and UCSD. Davis has an incredible campus. I love how all you ignorant kids throw negative comments about Davis around without having ever set foot on the campus. It is a true college town with tons of fun stuff to do. The campus is clean and one of the most beautiful of all the UC's. UCI is a boring commuter school and UCSD is dead. The beaches at UCSB are nice but partying on the beach gets old really fast, and then there really is nothing to do. You get to live in Isla Vista at the end of the day. YUCK. Yes football is by far the greatest sport. Go Ags!

I think you are overexagerrating the college life at UCD to make it sound better than any school. I've set foot on UCD many times during the school year, and I have 522,495 family members that have gone to UCD. You already know I like UC Davis, but I know UCD isn't as crazy as you make it sound. I think you need to actually attend UCD to see for yourself.

Football rocks. Well, actually, no, but 'tis important for a college.

I have many close friends at UCD, and I've been there many times dude. The atmosphere rocks.

Having spent a year at Davis I can vouch for reason's claims. The Ags are indeed the best. This next football season is going to be killer, I can't wait..

UCSB students love soccer and volleyball and those are always great to attend. But I still love football and that is why I'm drawn to schools like Miami, UCLA, and Wisconsin (so much spirit and love for sports). Even though you say Davis is really great I don't see myself there. But I don't really see myself at UCI and UCSD either so I really don't know.

As for the Wisconsin thing.....they have a nice lake right next to campus and maybe living in the snow will be a great experience.

football sucks

you are a nerd

Well after thinking about my schools for about an hour and a half....your (voiceofreason) comments have made me want to apply to UCD over UCI.

The reason why is not only bc of the football, college atmosphere, and social life. BUT you really want to attend UCD over any other school. I have seen that a lot on the Davis thread.....people actually love their school and would go there over anywhere.

When I read the UCI threads it seems everyone who is there is bc they didn't get into UCLA, UCB, or UCSD. I want to attend a school where people actually love their school.

So I wanted to thank you for showing me that UCD will be a great fit.

What VoiceofReason said about UCSB also applies to Davis. After the partying, there is really nothing to do.

I've noticed there are a main few types of people that come to Davis:

1) The people that didn't get accepted anywhere else.

2) The people who come here and get involved on campus and in the city -most of these people settle here and raise a family. Some turn into hippies. Some do a lot of totally useless extra-curricular activities that don't help anybody and give themselves a false sense of achievement.

3) The people that could've gone to LA/Cal but chose Davis because they don't care about undergrad prestige, and want a high GPA to go to good grad school

4) The people that don't know why they're here, and they don't care, they just party all day and want a degree.

some of these overlap, but Davis is not for everyone. I've only finished my freshman year at Davis, but I have also lived here from K-12, so I know what I'm talking about.

This is just my OPINION about Davis:
Davis is a good place to raise a family, but it is boring as hella if you're a college student -especially if you're a college student without a car. Sure you can go to Sac or Tahoe, but you gotta have some free time to be able to do that. Also, I don't like UCD football (lol nerd, jk), so I honestly don't have any school spirit. Also, if I were perhaps another major such as Engineering/Med/Bio/Chem/Computers I would be happy here, but I am Econ major (I don't know if the other majors are actually happy). I went to 2 career fairs this year, and there was basically nothing business-related, it was like 40% Winemaking, and the rest was Bio/Chem/Engineering. I feel like I've been left behind. I was accepted by SD and NYU, so I did have other choices, but I chose Davis because I thought Managerial Economics would have great hiring prospects. The problem is, I don't feel like I am nearly as competitive a candidate for great jobs as kids at other schools. Which reminds me, it seems to me that people do not work very hard at UC Davis -people like to cram and then blame their C+ on the teacher. Anyway, I will be applying to transfer this fall , but that is not to say Davis is bad -it is just not for me. I basically just posted this because I felt this thread needed to show both Pro's and Con's.

my classmate chose davis over cal because she didnt get the incentives award
and also cuz her sister is at davis so theyre going to rent an apartment together

o yea, davis is a good place for u if u like cow tipping :D
ahaha jp, davis is a really good vet school!!!!!

ilikeoranges:

Thanks for pointing that out. I don't think anyone would believe me if I said that. This is close to the many testimonials I hear from friends and family about UC Davis. UCD is also picked because of its proximity to Norcal with distance from the bay area. There honestly is a lot to do at UCD, yes, but most of the time you don't do it all.

All lot of my friends and family members say that UCD is just "chill." This also goes for a great majority. It feels very homey, though. I am always reminded by Saratoga without the hillswhen I'm on or near campus (I'm there often for family, some of which who hold UCD degrees =P). I hear it can also get pretty dead at UCD once in awhile because a lot of people drive home to the bay area. I know all my cousins and a few of my friends drove home to the bay area every weekend. As for business...sorry to hear that ilikeoranges. I was already told many times UCD didn't have great opportunities for businesses. As you said, I also heard there is a lack of companies during career fairs for the econ majors.

Don't get me wrong, I still like UCD. I want to also point out it gets boring at every campus from time to time. It'll get boring at UCSB, SDSU, UCI, etc. My family member at UCSB is in the third year at the moment, and this person is pretty bored at UCSB. At first, the pesron loved it, but the partying became overwhelming and old so he stopped. Lately, my family member has been contemplating going to UCI for a quarter (yes UCs allow this) to change the scenery and go to school with me =]!

What ilikeoranges said about UCD and Econ made me really worried...
I am an incoming Freshmen this fall and plan to major in Managerial Econ but also want to take some classes to get a sense of engineering. So if UCD doesn't offer much for Business that sucks really bad. I should have then gone to UCI after all. They have a somewhat decent Business program.
And poeple are right about some things at Davis. I just came from orientation and it was freakish hot up there, despite all the vegetation and all. and in the winter it is pretty rainy and muddy. so nothing I really look forward to since you kinda have to bike around.
but seriously I can see why UCD is considered 'boring'. My impression was that it is very isolated and if you do not have a car, buses are the only option. and from DAvis to SAC is 30 minutes too. and Sac is not great either. At least UCD gym-ARC is good.

Just to wrap up, I really hope that it was not a mistake to decide to go to UCD for a business major...

Do you honestly think you're going to be going to Sac and Frisco and whatnot every weekend just to chill? Please, try about once or twice a quarter at most. Those places are just a nice "break" from college life and serve that purpose very well for the few times you go to just get away. Apart from that you're going to be very occupied during the weekends at Davis itself. It does not get boring, and if it does you're a boring person yourself. You will always have to study, and if you decide not to for a weekend then there are always parties or social events to go to with your friends. You can always hit up downtown as well, or this fall go to one of the many sports games going on.

Don't go into Davis with that mentality, please, because you're just going to ruin the experience for yourself.

Also, about your major worries, if you study hard, work your ass off, and get great grades then nothing will hold you back from getting a good job anywhere. Thats because Davis is a top 50 school in the nation and getting a degree from here can only help you. If you slack and fall into the average or worse category then blaming Davis will be your only excuse to cover up your own shortcomings.

Take that for what its worth..
