Why UCD?

I also found this in a previous post
UCD has reputedly one of the largest internship programs with a reported 70% of students participating in interships with 6000 placements per year. It is the only UC with 5 professional schools ( med, law, business, educ, vet med). (thanks anothercollegemom for this information)

Here is a link to the UCD internship and career center:

LOL, Ilikeoranges. Are oranges the only thing you like dude? You are down on sports, extra-cirriculars, parties, getting good grades, achieving etc. Dude no disrespect, but that is pretty much a list of what makes college life fun. I don't think you will find much satisfaction at any school you try. Perhaps some anti-depressants would help??? Maybe get involved in an intramural sport. Exercise is supposed to be good for depression. Also you say you are from Davis, perhaps it is time for you to get away from your family.

lol, I exercise very often, and I was in IM Ultimate Frisbee with some of my friends. On another note: some clubs remind me of highschool, they are seriously a joke and do nothing but allow the President/VP of the club to put something on their grad school app. I've done a lot of stuff, I'm an outgoing person, dun worry ;). I'm not sure what you mean by

. I'm not sure if you mean I'm down with it, or if I'm down on your scale. Here's a list:

Sports: IM, Exercise!, free time sports with friends

Extra Curricular:
Honor Challenge
Created program to donate books to another country
Had dinner with candidate running for CA state office and did stuff around campus for him
Tutor at highschool
Studying abroad right now throught the UC EAP program (the only freshman that I know from Davis, there are 3 other freshman on my program-all from CAL)

Parties: I don't drink, but I have gone to parties where there is no alcohol which have been fun.

Good Grades: Well, I've been on the Dean's Honor list entire time, I have a 3.85

As I said before, it's my personal opinion. So hopefully that provides feedback to whatever I'm "down" with. And if I were depressed, I'm pretty sure I'd have a gpa around the 2.0 range.

Is there a purpose to this: http://www.agecon.ucdavis.edu/undergraduateprogram/career.php It basically just says what careers you could get with that majors...and it doesn't state year. You also don't have to be Ag-Econ to get those jobs, you could even be doing Native American Studies and get those.

I felt that the ICC was not very useful, I went there during office hours and the girl was like, "yeah...there aren't very many opportunities for business for freshman/sophomore". So I said I'm almost Junior standing (I'm 1yr ahead) and she told me to go online:

Ok, so I go online, and I select everything that's even remotely business-related, Actuary/marketing/all managerial things/etc etc, and hey there's a big list of stuff. If you look through most of them, they are extremely small companies, sometimes not even companies of 4-10 people. I felt like they were just taking advantage of unpaid labor; don't get me wrong there were some great internships available on there too, and I do plan to apply to some, I just felt like the ICC was useless and sent me to a search engine with a lot internships of varying degrees. You guys should see the very weird "Hedge Fund" internship some guy has, it seems VERY crooked, his site looks like something from geocities too.

I've also taken a Freshman Seminar - Career Opportunities or something like that, and I've gone to the ICC numerous times in addition to the office hours experience mentioned above.

Moral of the story: Some of you will love Davis, some of you will hate it, some of you simply won't care.

Btw for people thinking of going to business, I doubt that Davis has a worse program than Irvine, I believe they are about the same caliber. But if you look at the other schools, the starting income is much higher (50k), and other schools get recruited DIRECTLY, so majoring in AgEcon/Econ/ManEcon will get you a job, but it's my opinion that it will be an uphill battle to get promotions from the kids from Cal,Penn,NYU etc. That is one of the reasons that I want to transfer.

Btw if you're in engineering/premed, I heard Davis is pretty good for that so you'll probably be better off.

I'm not disrespecting Davis, but you can't expect nobody to ever say anything bad about it, this forum isn't some happy Davis wonderland where everyone is expected to say Davis is #1...

LOL dude, you are entitled to your opinion, though it is always pretty negative. (in my opinion) Your experience is also your experience, and you get to fully own it. I know a dude who just graduated from the UCD managerial econ program and got a coaching job for six figures. He is in his early twenties. Your experience is just that, YOUR experience. You make what you will of your opportunities. A lot in life has to do with your attitude and how you view life. You seem like a smart dude, so maybe you just need a change of scenery to help you form a new attitude and set of opinions. Good luck to you dude. Oh and by the way, I like peaches. ;)

I didn't say anyone else was going to face the exact same thing that I did. Someone may have a much better experience with the ICC than I did, etc etc. Of course there are going to be some people that make a great amount of money coming out of Davis, and there's gonna be some people make 20k coming out of Harvard, I was just saying that the average/median income was better at other places and prestige plays a part when getting your first job (at least for business). In my opinion, everyone will eventually get to the same level (like 100k+) if you work hard enough, but a part of it also depends on your grades and which school you come from. Anyway, I've mentioned that this has been my OPINION all of my above posts (except the "lol" post), so take everything I've said at face value. Some people in man-econ/econ/ag-econ might be able to make 250k starting, who knows right?
I found that the best way to do meaningful extra-curricular activities was to go outside of the university, and do stuff on your own or with other people. Btw, Voice...how did your friend get a coaching job w/ Managerial Econ major...? Is it sports?

yeah sports.

ok guys, thanks for the very long intense discussion.
like you guys said it, I just have to try hard and graduate with a good average and i should be fine, which my family also said. But maybe i will find a total different major I will like , sth besides Man Econ....
