Why UPenn

If I am a potential candidate for UPenn, why would I apply there ?? Why and what in UPenn is so special??< just curious, cuz a lot of my friends are applying there>

We won’t write your supplement for you…

but might I suggest their website: [Penn: University of Pennsylvania](http://www.upenn.edu/) ?

There are a lot of resources out there to find out more about Penn - it’s as simple as looking them up in wikipedia/google.

I understand that, being located in India, this task is a bit more difficult for you, but make sure to put the effort forth.

Now, on the other hand, if you have more specific questions, we’d probably be able to help a bit more.

Best of luck!

I agree with arghfrustrated. Everybody who applies to Penn applies for his/her own reasons, and after some research, college visits, etc, I’m sure you’ll find your reason too! Now if you finish researching and still need CC to convince you of a reason to apply to Penn, I think you should rethink applying in the first place…

Visit there and see there campus, classes, events

@quiver: FrankW’s advice is good. If you can’t really discern reasons besides “it’s a prestigious American college” then you should not apply

@upenn2012: quiver resides in India – unlikely to be able to follow thru w/your advice

Here’s one reason - cuz u did a lot of research and found out some very cool stuff that makes you a perfect fit for each other.

I know that’s a little snarky.

My D did hours researching many schools, visited more schools than I care to remember, spent the night, spoke with alumni and students and admissions counselors and a couple of admissions events. Her heart has been set on this for a long time. Nobody can give you all that in a post.

Wow, talk about lazy.

Thanks guys! The thing is that you don’t get much of a picture with just ranks and views of various courses. and I have never been to the US. so I just wanted to know if upenn would suit my bill.
Besides, I don’t even have time to research courses because of the exams at school. Just keeps going on and on.
Anyways is UPenn an awesome engineering school. I want to take up comp/EE.

^The folks in here may be biased. We think UPenn is great.

Whether it suits your bill is hard to tell. What is your bill? Maybe someone can help but you have to do the research. Talk to admissions. There is probably an alumnus in India you may be able to connect with.

One quality that will help you is resourcefulness. Don’t make excuses for what you don’t know.

@T26E4 : I live in PA and I went all the way to California to visit schools, why can’t he come to PA for a visit?

Keep in mind that not everyone has the same opportunities as you do… also cross continental travel (especially between here and Asia) cost significantly more than PA to CA…

upenn20121212: because he/she lives in India and the GDP per person there is a approx $1500, about the cost of your flight to Cally. (US has about $48K GDP)

Surely you aren’t suggesting that only kids who are wealthy enuff to travel to Penn should apply?

But based on the tone of your posts, that is perhaps exactly what you’re proposing…

I have UPenn friends who are going to do everything cept engineering! That is why I couldn’t make up my mind. Anyways I don’t think I can afford much of travel anyways, so going there in person might be a problem. Did check it out on YouUniversity though! Looked really good there!
