Why US Essay Georgia Tech

@SLTH02 - there is no need to tell a school what they already know about themselves. They know they have the Lorraine campus. You need to tell them what you bring to enhance the community.

The real motto is progress and service.

So ^this is what my initial comments were getting at. My son was wait listed by GT a few years back (we consider that a win ?). But for Michigan engineering (another win ?) his “why us” essay got into the reason he wanted to attended Michigan and yes could of been used for really any college also.

He went to the top high school in our state, which was selective on who they took. He wanted to be surrounded by people with the same intellectual curiosity and ability to be challenged by the best students to make him a better student (Michigan theme is leaders and best). He didn’t want to settle for mediocre. He wanted to explore and go deeper. To make new discoveries. He did peer to peer math so he put when things get difficult I know there will be those with more experience to help me reach my goals. He knows how hard the journey will be but looks forward to that challenge type of thing.

I am doing a poor job summarizing this but no where did he put how great Michigan is. The theme was more of the above. He did talk with two professors so he was able to write… After researching my major and then speaking to both Professor X and Professor Y, I discovered… That is aligned with what I would expect out of my collegiate learning.

I look forward to being a active member of the university landscape. He was active in high school. He gave an example and how it applies.

I look forward to a favorable response and look forward to eating at Blimpie Burgers while on campus. Go Blue!

So… You only know about Blimpie Burgers if you have been there or really researched the school. It was a light hearted close.

Again, I am leaving out things but giving you the jist. He also researched a certain program and touched on that. But it was specific to Michigan
It was also in his own voicing, which is important.
