Why USMMA v. Coast Guard?
Why not! It is good to encourage friendly competition between the two schools. It is true both organizations work hand and hand on the seas. But while on shore, friendly competition only strengthens the ties for both Academies. This weekend, I spoke with several alumni from the 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s and each one mentioned they loved watching the USMMA v. Coast Guard football games. When the Academy was ahead after the first touchdown (scored by the defense), they were looking up the history of the game in the program and recanting what happened when they were at KP. The Vice Admiral “Joey D” got a great send off for his finally game.
To those who question why the hatred between the Academies, Relax up It is Only a Game.

Army v. Navy
USMMA v. Coast Guard
Air Force v. Who cares?

Not trying to be a jerk - the post did pique my curiosity- who does Air Force see as their one big rivalry for the season? While Army and Navy look forward to playing AF - the rivalry clearly isn't of the same intensity . So who is Air Force's big rival?

The AF Academys location out west makes it difficult to have an established "service academy" rivalry due to the fact that all the military academys other than AF are east coast teams.

I know that USAFA vs. BYU is usually a high scoring barn burner of a game and is very exciting to watch.

I would also agree with kprower10 that Colorado State, and Colorado for that matter, would be good rivalries because they are "Rocky Mountain State" schools.

As for USCGA vs. USMMA it is our ARMY-NAVY game. Bothe D3 schools with similar enrollments and bragging rights of the sea via the football field.

It is a fun rivalry and is Great for both Academys.

I remember having a discussion with a Zoomie grad, and somehow we got into the discussion of rivalries.

It was mentioned that at Air Force, all over campus there is "GO AIR FORCE," "BEAT ARMY" and "BEAT NAVY." However, if you go to West Point or Annapolis, all they have is "BEAT ARMY/NAVY," nothing about Air Force.

The Zoomie than mentioned that, yeah, they were the "b****** child" of the Academies.

I had to mention that, no, they were not... They were probably the unwanted 3rd child, but Kings Point was the roll in the hay with the stable girl...

Oh boy...I ain't touchin that last one...haha.

Anyway, as a sports nerd myself, a few points...AFA has had the best teams of all the SA's over the past twenty years...can you say Fisher Deberry? Great all-time coach who has a number of C-in-C trophies to his credit.

These rivalries are more than just the games themselves. The traditions, the march-ons, the "trash talk" (mild by sports standards), the alums who bust their buttons after a win.

I only went to one Army-Navy game in my life, at the frozen tundra of Veterans Stadium in Philly, but it was one of the most memorable days of my life...I froze my ass off because I went there early to watch the march-on, but fortunately I had a lot of "anti-freeze" in my system to help me along.

The CGA-MMA rivarly is a fun one for the kids especially. A chance to blow off steam after a few rough weeks of school. Initially, my son wasn't looking forward to it...dad I got too much homework. Well he went anyway(had to, ha ha) and had a blast! Pictures are available on line if you dont' believe me.

What a tradition, what a life they lead! :D
