I am currently a female Sophomore and I feel super safe in the campus. Vanderbilt police are 100% committed to our safety. I often go off campus at night by myself and I never feel anything suspicious.

Hope that helps!

Thank you guys for all these helpful answers. Actually, I have been doing my own homework, and I confess that the more I know about Vanderbilt, the more I am attracted to it. It is certainly a mighty wonderful school. Hopefully, I could be a proud Vanderbilt parent someday.

Late response, but hope it’s still helpful. We’re from the NE (near Boston). My son wanted to study engineering (probably comp sci, but not final decision), and attend a mid-size school with a reputation for all-around excellence (not just engineering/science). He had a preference for schools in warmer climates, because he enjoys various watersports.

Move-in weekend was great, VU does a great job of organizing it and making newcomers feel welcome. You have to experience it to believe how much better it is than most others.

So far, after about 4 weeks, our son is happy and thriving. He’s working hard at academics, and appreciating how “everyone here is really smart”. He’s made many friends, and has jumped into several extracurricular activities. We (parents) are absolutely delighted that it’s proved to be such a great fit for him.

Good luck with your decisions!
