Why W&L is not that famous?

Very odd question, yes, but really - I am curious.
My brother studies there and I consider going there too (for engineering) but I was told that W&L is not that famous in USA? I am also told that I have really good chances for Brown. But you know - my brother is in W&L ^^

I think W&L is pretty famous -- it's high on the list of liberal arts colleges in many ratings.

For engineering though, I would recommend Virginia Tech (84 miles from W&L) or University of Virginia (69 miles from W&L) or Liberty University (electrical and computer only - 48 miles away) or even Virginia Military Institute (right next door to Washington and Lee).

who cares if it's "famous"? we know we're getting a great education, and the people that will really matter in the end for us regarding jobs and such know about w&l, so frankly i don't care if everyone and their brother know about us too. people come to w&l for great academics, a cohesive student body, and a wonderful all-around experience, not because we're "famous."

I am not saying anything about the academics at W&L.

I am curious because I asked several people and they didn't know about W&L and I was wondering why is this so.

huguenot 10x for the info!

I mean - from what my brother has told me I got the impression that it is super but when I talked with several people they told "never heard of it" and I was wondering why.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.
