My faculty I applied for was CAS, but I was accepted into CGS, which from what I’ve heard, has a bad reputation. It has a generalization that those people are the ones with lower stats but who can pay full-tuition for the school.
I have a 2010 SAT (highest in math and reading), 3.5 UW, and decent essay+EC’s. I’ve seen more people with lower stats than mine getting accepted and into the major they applied for, but how come mine was switched into CGS when I have the stats?

Did you have a rigorous schedule in high school? That is most important to BU. Also if you didn’t demonstrate interest that could be why

They put you in CGS if they think your grades are good enough for BU but that maybe you’re not as proficient in other areas as you could be. Also, during the application process, if you checked that you would accept admission to the college of general studies, then they might put you there instead of straight up rejecting you. BU is a great school but keep in mind that if you come here you cannot transfer out of CGS until junior year.

@jminny Does that mean you can’t study a language or any courses out of that school???

Yes you can but its limited to on course a semester for the first 4 semesters At CGS you concentrate on your Core requirements and are free to take whatever needed in Junior and senior years. Its best to try to test out of a language if you can with AP ( or use SATII language, its pretty easy and they are curved a ton, like 33% is a 600 ( passing grade for BU)

If you are accepted to CGS, I suggest you review the “Pathways” documents for the college in which you would like to study to determine what it takes to get there.
