I applied as an in-state student to UMass Amherst. My GPA is little bit low, but I've taken mostly honors and AP classes, and there is an upward trend (I was accepted to a school with higher GPA requirements than UMass already).

My SAT score is 2060: 690CR 670M 700W

I have a few theories on why I was deferred, but I'm sure if any are legitimate. I believe the most plausible reason is because though I had almost all As in the first term of senior year, I did get a D in AP Physics, but I have since switched out and my school has sent a note saying explaining that I had not taken a class that was a prerequisite, even though I wasn't told that I needed to have taken that other physics class first. I do not think that the EA schools I applied to got that note.

unless im an idiot quiet sure they can’t see your first quarter grades of your senior year lol…cause i believe most schools compose semester grades and then send them in, unless otherwise directed.

and you probably want to provide other information, like umm major?! etc. Plus, even though decent grades in high school are of high importance, it won’t separate you from the rest and make you special :D

What do you mean by, “a little bit low”. That could make a big difference.

Don’t worry about why you were deferred. Look forward instead. If you really want UMass, make sure they know that. At a minimum, send them a hardcopy letter that shows them why they’re a top choice for you, and why you’re great for them. If anything has changed since your application - you won an award, your grades went up, etc. - then send that info in, and mention it in your letter. Finally, most schools will accept one additional recommendation at this point, so pick someone who you know will cast you in a warm glow and ask them to write a recc for you.

Good luck.
