Why was I rejected?

I just got rejected from Georgia Tech and its making me nervous as I thought I was going to get accepted. I just want to know what my application was lacking and if I should be nervous for the rest of my decisions.

Here are my credentials:
31 ACT
3.79 unweighted GPA in all AP and IB classes
Leadership and Extracurriculars: Elected onto the International Council for Key Club, Debate Captain with over 600 points in NSDA, DECA captain and state finalist, Youth Council at my local City Hall, and participated in several other small extracurriculars.
Also National Honors Society and AP Scholar

I thought my essay was good, I worked my ass off on it for three days straight.
I am an asian female, and I applied for their computer science major having taking several programming courses.

I just don’t understand why I got rejected. Do I have any chance at these other schools?
I applied for USC, Northeastern, UVa, Boston University, NYU, Emory, Lehigh, and a few others with about the same acceptance rate as all those.

Thanks for any help!

Because at some point it’s a crap shoot–schools like GA Tech have far more qualified applicants than they have spots in their entering class. Don’t despair!

(that said, the ACT is the weak point in your app, from what you’ve shared)

What program are you going into? The acceptance rate for the individual program can vary significantly from the school’s acceptance rate. It really could be that in that individual program they have so many applicants that it has become so highly competitive that even stats as good as yours don’t get you there.

@scmom2017 I applied for computer science at every school I applied for

probably their most competitive major… 31 act is far below average in CS

solid shot at BU and NYU btw

Yes. OOS to GTech is very competitive. Especially to CS.

OOS to GTech CS with your stats would have been a reach for you.

Agree on BU and NYU if you don’t require fin aid.

First, I am sorry you did not get accepted to GT. Your grades and test scores were fine for GT but a student’s best shot at acceptance at GT is through early action. The acceptance rate is much higher, plus GT really practices holistic admission- they look at much more than grades and test scores with community service being a pick part of their selection process especially since GT’s motto is “progress and service”. GT’s Admission Director has good advice for students applying to GT such as making sure in your application to touch about what you high school will miss about you and how will you be engaged once a student at GT. I think those issues make a big difference in terms of being accepted at GT so look over your application to see if you touched upon those issues.

Hang in there and do not despair because I am sure you will accepted to some of the colleges on your list. Good luck.
