Why was I waitlisted and not flat out rejected from Phillips Exeter?

I was waitlisted at Phillips Exeter (probably because of my low ISEE scores) but why did they not reject me. Is it because the rest of my application was good? Is there any way to get off of the waitlist?

No one here can give you an answer, sorry to say. You will never know and (I believe) the WL is closed. It can be the fit for the new class for your extracurriculars, it could be aid, it could be anything. They basically received 1,000 awesome applicants who COULD be admitted (and another 1,000 not quite there) and only have 300 slots.

The same happened with my DS. He was accepted to one “competitive” school and WL at two others with the same admission rates. We will never know why though I suspect in his case it was partially his aid needs.

Thanks!
