Why was I waitlisted? :\

well, who is to say what is "good enough"--i am sure he/she will read your statement on the common ap, but i think it never hurts to personally make the extra effort to touch base and express interest to your admissions counselor.

Since Lehigh is trying to increase its USNEWS rankings and part of the rating is based on their ratio of yield to number of admissions offers, they reject over-qualified applicants that haven't shown interest - the people who use Lehigh as a safety, not as a serious option.

This is no longer part of the USNWR rankings formula.

“their loss,” you mean?

selectivity remains part of the rankings.

sounds like they didn’t think your flash cartoons were funny.

…But on a much better educated guess, i’m going to say that since 1) you lived more than 4 hours away and 2) you have the grades/resume for a better school, accepting you would have just lead to one more spot that someone else could have paid 50k to fill their pockets with. Lets face it, if/when you get into a better school, you would/probably go.

Admissions officer said that they only accepted approx. 5 kids from the wait list last year, and the year prior was not much better. So, it looks bleak.

Update. I guess the admissions officer was wrong, because the common data set says it was 43 kids admitted, not 5. But still, there were 3,226 applicants placed on the wait list. Still bleak.
