Choatiemom, let’s leave the pros and cons of laundry service deeply hidden in the archives.
It’s probably one of the most contentious threads out there!

Neato, I thought The Great Laundry Debate WAS the main reason we are all here!

Waiting for Godot??

Escribiendo - very well said! A true peace maker in our midst.

SevenDad and others - It was precisely because you all kept harping, and even talked about how you were sorry but were going to KEEP harping, that I took your advice on the “go wide” theory of applying to BS. We did just that and in the end, my daughter received many acceptances and three hefty offers of financial aid. We couldn’t be happier.

thanks to all!

What? The great laundry debate was what we used to choose among boarding schools. We could have cared less for academics or diversity or opportunities–we were looking for grossly overpriced, badly folded, oddly smelling laundry accompanied by spotty pick-up and delivery service. We were looking for the school that would best teach DC to appreciate the hired help at home! ;)

Did someone say LAUNDRY?

Parlabane!!!

It’s officially “old home” week here at CC.

@PurpleFever: You made my day!

I’m just itchin’ for that fight, Parlabane…maybe we could find a way to add Exeter’s coldness into the mix, just for old time’s sake?

And what happened to GMT’s thread on how often kids change their sheets? Deleted for excessive frivolity?

We are here for the Absurdity, of both the laundry and Beckett varieties.

Actually, I think worrying about what to wear to the interview or revisit days tops the list of all possible absurdities. Here’s the answer: clothes! No really, I’ve read the entire thread(s), and it takes my breath away that anyone would even waste a second on this. If you’re smart enough to go to BS, you’re probably smart enough to take some hangars out of your closet…

Guess that one really gets under my skin for inanity if not outright absurdity. Gosh, this feels good.

I’m here for the social capital. Straight up.

I must be bored tonight, because I actually looked back at the infamous laundry thread. I actually claimed that laundry was a social event for my children! They would be mortified.

Sometimes when I talk to my D I think about how glad I am not to be 14 years old any more. That’s exactly how I felt reading the “what to wear to revisit days” thread!

@friendlymom: If you felt 14 while reading that thread, how would an actual 14 year old feel? :)

I came to this forum just for the rich variety of opinions on it. I understand if anyone needs to take a break and simmer down, but I sincerely hope both parties reconcile!

If it’s old home week, guess I’ll admit to lurking with all the other old timers. Pm me with questions about Exeter, SPS, SAS, Eaglebrook and the whole current admissions cycle.

For those who think I’m a broken record and that “certainly in this day and age no one thinks of BS as an IVY feeder”, I present Exhibit A, cut and pasted from the “Chance Me” threads…

“I am looking for schools that will get me into the ivy league, such as Yale, Brown and Princeton.”

SevenDad- that was a 7th grader! The other students on that thread seem to be doing a good job of gently counseling him or her…

@SevenDad,
You have a point. Considering the nature of this forum and its crowd, I can see why you feel compelled to preach the gospel. Perhaps what we need is a sub-forum titled **“Prep School Classic”/b that archives some of the most helpful threads. There are ChoatieMoms but I believe they are a species on the verge of extinction;), and I can’t imagine others would put up with reading 68 pages. And that’s just for reading the titles of threads, not actual contents.

+1 on classic section

It would be great to collect the jewels of the wisdom.
Some serious datamining would be needed. (my day job talking)

We are also immensely grateful for the shared experiences and smack-in-the-head advices.

Without CC we would have opted for $$$ consultant or on our own we would have ended up with no acceptances after applying only to the “noteworthy” few.

We also started to looking at BS “to improve college chances for DC” whatever that means.
However I liked the views on “Why BS” that I found here and liked the idea even more after many hours no months on CC.
I hope that’s not a minority opinion in actual BS. That would be disappointing.
