<p>Somebody said CLOTHES?</p>
<p>We were about to head to the interviews with DS in his Local Public School “uniform” : jeans, hoody, and sneakers.
Then I found the What to wear to the interviews thread.</p>
<p>Time for serious shopping.
DS didn’t own a suit or blazers nor even a belt! He had also been growing an inch a night so there was nothing that doesn’t reveal extra inches of his limbs. He actually didn’t mind wearing black dress pants that are 6 inches too short to the school orchestra concert. This is fine, ma, he insisted.
He was dressed very preppy to the “dress code” at the interviews, everything new except for the underwear and black socks for his new shiny black dress shoes (that he can wear on his concerts instead of black sneakers.)
I kept admiring how handsome he is in his button downs and light blue tie.</p>
<p>At his first interview, the students at school were all dressed very very casual. He kept saying ma, I feel out of place mom. Just then, a boy dressed just like him entered the reception room. DS said, Mom, I don’t feel out of place. :)</p>

<p>Yep, clothes. That whole thread could be adressed simply by saying, take a shower, brush your teeth, comb your hair, dress nicely. That’s it.</p>
<p>Our kiddo never considered wearing a suit/blazer/tie. Why? That’s not typical teenage dress, but he did have enough common sense to wear nice, clean clothes. Any school that would base a decision on apparel is not a place worth considering, and I don’t believe any do.</p>
<p>The farthest I would go in giving clothing a second thought is to look at pictures of kids on the schools’ websites and consider any dress code they have. There really is no need for more than a few minute’s thought on this issue.</p>

<p>I swear to God the laundry thread was just reenacted live a few minutes ago during the Residential Life info session at Kent.</p>

              <p>@MomThree: Live posting from a revisit…Love it!</p>

<p>The no jeans thing (which may not be strict) threw me off. His wardrobe was light wash, indigo, dark or flannel lined.
Minus jeans there were sweatpants for PE and the aforementioned 6 inches too short black dress pants.
So I got him a pair of khakis and a navy blazer (actually just the jacket from suit set) on sale.</p>
<p>He also didn’t own any collared shirts. No Polo’s. He had declared collared shirts too dorky for middle school.
Brooks brothers outlet had serious sale going on so I got a few Oxfords.
Now I don’t have to shop for his 8th grade graduation/continuation ceremony. :)</p>
<p>Besides, I would have missed admiring and marveling what a hansom.e young man he is all dressed up. :)</p>
<p>During interviews we saw plenty of preppy looks as well as casual looks to downright sloppy looks.
I don’t think any outfit matters though.</p>

<p>As long as we’re revisiting old topics, I’ll say that not getting heartburn over what you see your teenager wearing every day is DEFINITELY one of the secret pleasures of being a BS parent. Also, girls at my D’s boarding school seem to wear clothes with a lot more coverage than the girls I see around here.</p>

<p>In the midst of a major winter storm and with one week to go til M10…spending my snow day ChoatieMom style reading the old threads from back to front…what an education!</p>

<p>As I mentioned on another thread, I don’t do radio or TV, so I had oodles of time to waste on the CC archives. Welcome to the club, Zoo. Let us know what you find.</p>

<p>@zookeeper: Good on you for finding some of the older threads…funny how advice that was sound last year sort of gets buried in the frenzy of every new app cycle.</p>

<p>Even though this thread is almost a year old, it feels like yesterday. I miss Exie a lot. One confession: Sometimes I write things just to bait her (if she’s still out there) but (sadly) to no avail. There will never be another one like her. To anyone new doing BS research: Look up her posts. You’ll learn a lot. </p>
<p>@london203- “At any rate, we ARE going thru something together now!” LOL.
I think you and I were a little shell shocked that day… Holy Cow.</p>
