Why will you be accepted/deferred/rejected?

I stole this from the UPenn board who stole it from the Columbia board, who stole it from the Yale board. I think its pretty cool. Basically, you give reasons why you’d be accepted, why you’d be deferred, and why you’d be rejected.

Okay I’ll go

I’ll be ACCEPTED because I seem to fit in very well with the Bryn Mawr atmosphere. My interviewer said that the school seemed like a good match for me. I have a very specific outline of what I would do if accepted into Bryn Mawr, and my SATs are decent, my essays are good.

I’ll be DEFERRED because my grades are not wonderful, but my other qualities might balance that out so they want to take a more careful look.

I’ll be REJECTED because of my grades/class rank. They would be too bad to even be able to consider all the other factors.

Ahhh!

From now on go from rejected to accepted, that way you’re optimistic in the end, not depressed. :)

i don't like this exercise! :)

nor do i. Accepted: they see my wonderful grades, recs, and interest in their school.
Deferred: my sats are too low.
X-ed/Rejected- my sats suck and i dont have enough ap's.

i dont like this exercise very much :(.

REJECTED: They think my scores are too low, grades are too low, not enough extra curriculars
DEFERRED: My SATs are decent-ish and they see I love the school, but grades and extra curriculars not good enough
ACCEPTED: They think my grades aren't too bad, they like my SAT verbal, they like my writing samples/essays, notice how much I love Bryn Mawr, and the coach I talked to tells them to take me

This past week I've been sooooo nervous! I would love to get in, that would be AMAZING!!!!

Haha, I don't like this exercise either!

It was 6 am and I read it on the UPenn board and thought it sounded cool, but when it came down to it...

meh.

This is based on a false premis that people are always rejected because there is something wrong with them. The truth is most rejections are because the school already had enough violin playing national tennis champions, who alternated nights working at the nursing home and orphanage.

This is like casting a play and you would not cast Robert DeNiro to play Martin Luther King Jr. If the school is looking for another oboe player who is experienced with debate then that person might get in before someone else.

It is not you. It is just their decision based on what they need.
