admit: opera. i am recognized by the metropolitan opera and affiliates. i can contribute to/take advantage of the specific offering of the Yale School of Music in conjunction with Yale College. I also already work at Yale in a lab, bringing in national grant support.

deferral: my sats are 1450, my scores are 800-690-650, and my GPA is an unweighted 3.65. Junior year was straight B+s, senior year is calculus = death. I am strong at what I'm good at and I devote wayyy more time than I probably should to my ECs, which takes away from my academics.

rejection: HELLZA no. my dad works there! I live there! why would they do that to me? is there a god?

I am a serial joker. Good thing the internet is somewhat anonymous, not that I can get away with something illegal, but that I can laugh and pizz people off.

admit: I'm really into my top two EC's, filmmaking and journalism. I actually combined the two to make something new at my school this year --- a televised school news program that airs biweekly. It's a pretty unique combination. Very good teacher recs. Am an American living overseas. Good SAT II scores (800-800-770). Attend a school that usually sends 10-12 kids to Ivies each year(1-2 to Yale).

deferral: The other kid applying to Yale EA from my school is a god.
I have only mildly good SAT I scores (1500) and good, but not great essays. I have two C+'s on my transcript. My freshman grades were weak-ish. As in they were mostly A-s, with B+'s and B's mixed in. But I have straight A's now, and in junior year.

rejection: Ew. I don't want to consider this possibility, but I reckon if they did, it would be for the same reasons as they'd defer me. I'd say my transcript would be the biggest reason.

You know deciding on the 1400 people to admit is a challenging task. If I had a vote, I'd want to be sure to include people who were "regular." Think how boring any school would be if you had 1400 clones. I'm not taking about the usual definition of diversity, but rather a cross section of personalities. Integrating people who are interested in the performing arts, creative writing, music, technical peopole, and regular guys who are interested in play station 2 scores and fantasy football.

admit: my dedication to newspaper is almost unbelievable, my Latin background (I want to major in Classics) is very good, my grades are stellar and my gpa is absurdly high...one of my essays was really good, and my recommendations are most likely amazing. they usually take a couple from my school...

defer: my sats are fine, but not as high as some of yours (1530), but sat IIs are fine as well, but ditto (790-780-750 in chem-writing-latin), they usually take a couple from my school, but last year they only took one and she was a recruited athlete, and we have a recruited athlete applying early now...I also have a ton of awards, but some of them are only on the local level

reject: One of the things that has terrified me is whether they'll believe the hours I put into newspaper. I practically live at school because of newspaper, and the numbers may seem inflated to people who are unfamiliar with our paper. Not sure why else they'd reject me, but I'm sure they could find ways :(

admit: by a miracle thanks to God or nature or simple chance.

defer: average sats, few leadership roles, hardly any ECs but there's something about me that sparks enough interest for me not to get rejected immediately!

reject: all the above plus my school is a british school that has never sent nor attempted to send anyone to an ivy before: they don't rank, 'do' the gpa thing, my form tutor who was the closest thing i had to a guidance counselor did a rushed evaluation and i pretty much had to do the application by myself.
