Basically, just fill out what you think the reason would be for each of these admission outcomes for your application.

I'll go first:

Accepted: Scores are above the school's 75th percentile. Ranked #1/600ish. Strong leadership in regional organizations, one of the top high school bassoon players in CA, lots of comm service, 2 good recs.
Deferred: mediocre essays, 1 rec i have doubts about, not nationally-ranked, essays don't pop out, not-so-great interview.
Rejected: scattered interests, lots of other applicants from my school, recs turned out worse than i thought

Accepted: interview was amazing, essays were better than most, the best ECs of anyone i know (and im saying this in all honesty without trying to be modest lol), "art recruit", stony brook classes

Deferred: scores aren't phenomenal, they don't know what to do with me and they dont want to offend my interviewer

Accepted: Good EC's--> swam 22+ hrs/wk until 12th grade with several top 3 finishes in state, oil/watercolor painting with large portfolio, good GPA/SAT's, good essays (they took me forever....), no interview needed (?) haha
Deferred: not likely, I usually end up in 1 of 2 extremes =)
Rejected: No rank, non-traditional schooling, little/lack of school awards/clubs/leadership roles (b/c of non-traditional education), not even worth an interview (?) haha

accepted-good academics and awards, AMAZING guidance counselor rec, nice font in essays haha
deferred-really solid candidate overall but nothing that really makes them want me, no interview
rejected-my teacher screwed me in my rec, my ECs are kinda bad (i'm not going to be rejected i don't think)

Accepted: strong grades in a competitive NJ private school. i also have an upward trend. relatively high SAT scores, AP scores. one amazing teacher rec, one amazing optional rec. strong EC's. i show a lot of passion in music. i've won many local and state piano competitions, performed in Italy, and was recognized by the mayor of my town and a state senator. i also sing a cappella, All-State Chorus, community service, etc.

Deferred: i'm asian. no sports. not very much leadership (i'm the secretary of my a cappella group and co-president of german club, but that's about it). one essay was really good, but the other two were merely ok. one rec is noticeably better than the other. interview was good, but nothing extraordinary.

Rejected: I really hope this doesn't happen. Um... everything i stated above for reasons to be deferred. let me emphasize one thing: i'm asian. ack.

accepted: good sat i, ii and ap test scores. excellent teacher rec and principal rec, diverse and strong ec's, leadership, strength of schedule and contious improvement in grades though freshman year was a bit low.

deferred: average essays, low freshman grades, no class rank, okay interview

rejected: eh probably the same as my deferred just taken into greater consideration

--My passion for writing. I've participated at creative writing programs at Duke and Stanford universities. Moreover, currently during my free time, I study under a number of extremely famous authors, one of whom is a Pulitzer prize finalist, writer for periodicals such as The New Yorker, and was invited to speak at Princeton last year, another of whom is a Pulitzer Prize winner, O. Henry Award winner, and a screen writer for a blockbuster hit which will go unnamed for privacy reasons. One of these authors also helped me edit my portfolio and wrote a recommendation for me that hopefully will be forwarded with my writing supplement to the creative writing department. There's a 33% chance that this writer's friend will also be the one reviewing my creative writing supplement for Princeton. Also helps that I have nearly perfect English scores across the board: 800 Verbal SAT I (two times), 800 writing, 780 literature, 5 on the English Language AP.

--My passion for art. I've studied visual art (painting and drawing) for the past nine years. I submitted a portfolio that my art instructors have told me is competitive enough for some top art universities.

--Strong student. Perfect 4.0 unweighted at a rigorous prep school.

--Top notch essays (I hope). Again, writing is my thing. I spent two months on my essays, and I hope that the admissions committee will like them.

Deferred:

--My big split between scores on the SAT I. (800 V, 680 M)

--A recruited athelete with a higher SAT I score than me is also applying early from my school. They might automatically defer me because he is a nearly guaranteed acceptance.

--Possibility that my recommendations aren't up to snuff.

--The visual art and creative writing departments bash my portfolios.

--Mediocre interview.

Rejected:

--I'm pretending that this can't happen for the sake of my sanity.

accepted: strong rec letters. my phy ap teacher said im top 2 or 3 students he taught. eng honors teacher said im one of top few in 35 years of teaching, ranking 1st in her class of 56 last year. very heavy courseload, school record num of APs. taking course at local university. strong summer math program. national awards in contests. provincial awards in sports, contests, and other ECs. Strong AP testing , esp in math and sci. strong sat 2 scores. 800 800 780 740. est rank of top 2% out of 400. 75% going to 4 year college
deferred. not so hot sat 1 score. 690 v 800 m. verbal went down the second time i took it a month later... :( by 30 points... essays were not very good. done in 2 days... international. asian, need FA. public school that has never sent anyone to princeton out of dozens of acceptance to harvard yale and mit etc schools. really nothing make me stand out.

rejected. crappy sat score and sat. hope that doesnt happen. if it does.. ill accept it.

accepted: good standardized testing record, 4.2 GPA with unquestionably the hardest course load at school...top 5% of class...and [clincher] i'm mexican

deferred: mediocre essays and possibly not top-of the line recs...solid ec's, but no major scientific breakthroughs

rejected: two 1600 students from my school applying also+one "recruited athlete"...no real leadership or outstanding achievement...and you

accepted or rejected: no interview...we shall see, we shall see.

Accepted: Outstanding leadership abilities as evidenced through taking strong leadership roles in several ECs (band, Young Marines, NHS prez). Talents ranging from multilingualism (5 languages) to music composition (arts submission as well). Comparatively strong academic record in most rigorous curriculum at school. Great recs. Good interview that actually added something to my application (something I'd failed to mention in my app I did in my interview, so she said she'd make a point to emphasize it). National recognition (National Young Marine of the Year runner-up).

Deferred: Lower standardized test scores (SAT I math and SATII math iic). Not among the top 10 students (but in top 5% of class). Okay essays, but nothing really special. ECs too spread. Doesn't look like much, but I think these have a strong chance of keeping me out.

Rejected: The test scores, although I don't think they're low enough to get me rejected.

Accepted: Alaska, jk. But not really. Strong essays, decent rank and GPA, competitive SAT scores, good recs, hard childhood... whatever
Deferred: Nothing nationally recognized.
Rejected: Im effusive... REALLY emotional. I can just hide it well. Im sure they ll imply that in my essays though.

Accepted: strong on math: 2 silver medals at intl olympiad, first prize at intl math University student competition, where i competed with 2 princeton alumnae, did better than one and almost as well the another (who ranked top 5 at putnam as a freshman:))... other math/cs prizes, v good sat scores (4intl), v good recs

deferred: one essay is totally cliche, found out (after i submited) that the subject is no no... in fact it's a no no no no NO!... but it's sincere :D
no leadership, not too many ECs

Accepted:
-IB diploma candidate (most rigorous courseload) with excellent predicted score

No Kebree...it's not as nice as you'd think. While I do get an added shove, it's really not that much. 40% of legacies are accepted...and that's almost exclusively ED. In addition, it's a lot of pressure because people assume that you'll get in because of your birth-right, but I'd rather have people recognize my achievements. The one blessing/curse is that I doubt I'll get rejected ED...out of courtesy.
