why won't anyone hire me?!

I've been applying to work-study jobs since school started. I've probably tried to contact 20+ work-study offers. when I send an app out, I either do not get a response, or I get a response that either says that there are no positions left (when just a sec ago the website tells me that there were openings) or they demand a resume. after that I either do not get a response (***) or I get a response telling me that there are no more openings. what the heck dude?! I need a job but the work-study jobs that I am entitled to are not obliging. I wanna beat someone up!
help?

Have you applied to Access Control and front desk?

And why not make out a resume?

you should try the dining halls... i mean true, its not the most desired job but, it's a job

be patient. took me forever to get my first job. you just gotta keep applying.

understand that having no resume does not help in getting a job. then how the are you supposed to build up a resume when you cant get a job?!?! because htey wont hire you unless you have one. do you need special connections!

The work study jobs AVAILABLE right now really suck. Fall quarter (before school started) was the best time to find the first job.

Are these on-campus jobs or off-campus jobs?

ah, the good ol' catch 22.

Ricepudding0: don't get disheartened. Be patient. My D just started her work study job. I think a resume would help. Start building-it is a must when u enter the real job market.

i'm sure the dining halls and the food things have work study available. i know a lot of the kids at bcaf are work study. maybe you could talk to the manager there? jay or todd would probably be able to help, they're really nice

when you don't have any real work experience, for that very first resume you make, you can easily list any awards/scholarships you've won or any leadership positions you held in clubs/organizations. this will help you...

and to the comment that none of the WS jobs available right now aren't very good, well just think, you don't have to keep that job forever...

I agree that the best time to start applying or send emails to potential employers is in the Fall. But even now, I think you still have a chance. Half of the people you contact though will probably not reply, either because they haven't checked their email, haven't got the time, already plan to conduct interviews (meaning you were too late in applying), or have already filled the positions. That sucks. But keep trying, and FOR SURE have a resume prepared. It's definitely required for a lot of the work-study jobs.

There is such a thing as student resume, where you talk about your accomplishments, and your coursework and how that will assist you in your job.

I suggest you go to the career center, or look up some resume templates online.

Applying for jobs with no resume is quite unprofessional, and i wouldnt hire you either.

Build a resume, also, there is this concept of lying a bit, saying you worked for your parents in the summer, or something to taht effect.

^^^ yeah and that concept of "lying a bit" can come back and bite you in the ass but hard.

that is not true.

you can get the first job and then remove that.

i know a lot of people who put their parents companies, etc... and thats relalyhow you get your first job .. especially your first office job .

im having difficulty getting w-study pos too. gosh, at the beg of the year, i thought i secured a position... the researcher told me she was going to give the position to ME. then, she emails me the next day saying she gave it to another person. blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

ive been sending a lot of emails out lately for wstuyd.s.dfskdfjhfisaodhisodaufhsaoufhsaouifhsaio

This isn't work-study related, but if it makes you feel better at all, it took me FIVE months to find my internship last year. Granted, I was looking for paid and that's more competitive, but still. I went on second and third and fourth interviews with companies only to be rejected due to lame stuff like scheduling, etc.

So yknow. It's ok. You'll find something. Sometimes it just takes a while.

"Why won't anyone hire me?!"

I hope I won't be saying that when I graduate.
Just kidding...I think.

oh my gosh, I'm in the same position as you are! I've only worked with Concessions for a short time, so even that on my resume makes it look like crap. I'm starting to think these jobs posted are first come-first serve basis. And there was even this one post where the employer wants to hire a specific person with her name on it. What the heck!?
