There are plenty of professors who will take in undergrads into their lab if they are on work-study. Look into the different departments and ask for a listing.

I used to work for the UCLA Live Human Resources Manager, and they hire a lot of work-study students as ushers for the UCLA Live events and concerts. They generally work on the hiring process at the beginning of each quarter, but they hire as much as 20-30 new ushers at the beginning of fall quarter every year. Some of them stay, some of them leave, so they constantly have to hire more people throughout the year. I don't know if they are currently hiring right now (I don't work there anymore), but I just wanted to leave this FYI.

All you do is stand around Royce Hall or hand out event programs to patrons, and you get paid to watch all the neat performances too. Pay rate ranges from $9.50-$10.50, and I think it's higher for students with workstudy.

I think I should search for a work-study job. I've had 7 jobs before, so I think I make a good candidate. Taco Bell here I come!!!

"oh my gosh, I'm in the same position as you are! I've only worked with Concessions for a short time, so even that on my resume makes it look like crap. I'm starting to think these jobs posted are first come-first serve basis. And there was even this one post where the employer wants to hire a specific person with her name on it. What the heck!?"

Lol... I've actually had an employer create a ws-position for me... I'm almost 99% sure she didn't put my name on it though...

I'm sorry I didn't explicitly say this in my post, but I do have a resume and do send it out. I meant to say "they demand a resume, I send it, either they don't reply back or they do and say there are no spots open." So I'm back to where I was.

I applied to many new job openings, so I'm pretty sure I'm some of the first kids, if not the first kid, to apply to many.

these are all on-campus jobs. pretty much all of them are work-study.

I also tell them that I indeed have work-study money.

I have also been applying since school began in the fall.

So, this all leads to the same conclusion: DOUBLEYUU-TEE-EF? I'm frustrated.
I just applied to some CLICC jobs and library jobs towards the beginning of this week. no surprise: not a peep from either since.

UGH. thanks for the advice all.

Im sorry you didnt have any luck :(...I just started job hunting over xmas break using the workstudy list...first 2 weeks I got no response...after contacting 3 different listings. After one never responding and the other telling me (about 3 weeks later) that they had no positions I finally got an answer from one second week giving me an interview!....keep trying...new jobs are added each day! ...who knows I prob might be joining in on the job hunting again because I dont find out till tomorrow if I get the job or not!

Well, you guys and/or ladies can always resort to selling dope! I mean Tijuana is not that far...

On a more serious note, I understand your frustration on getting a job. Just keep trying.

I have an interview tomorrow for an on campus job. The job entails calling the schools alumni and asking for donations. I may cancel the interview because the work schedule interferes with two classes. So, I may have to apply for a cafeteria job. All the easy jobs are taken: computer lab assistants and bookstore security.

need jobs allie

Completely same situation as you are. With resume, work-study and everything. Out of the 15 I've emailed, 5 have emailed back with an 'already filled' reply. =[ Maybe people just hate us.

How is working at the dining halls, if anyone had that experience? (or any other residential restaurant)

Did any of you consider that your resumes suck?

Post it on monster, and see if anyone calls you, its a good indication of if it sucks or not. Just let the calls go to voicemail and see what happens, if no one calls, it sucks.

I'm sure everyone has already said this, but don't give up! I just got a call from coffee bean. I put down zero work/volunteer experience, only wanted to work for a short while, and ten hours a week. There's hope!

what non work studdy jobs are there...

Malishka,

That's a bit of a moot point, since many on-campus jobs don't even take resumes...

^did u have jobs/internships during your undergrad years

I got an on-campus job after an interview...it was weird...I was walking down boelter hall, saw the flyer...saw the words "$11/hour," sent an email...got an interview the following week...within days I had the job. I guess I was lucky. btw it was a non-work study job.

two of my friends got on-campus jobs too without much difficulty....one for the UCLA postal service (??) and the other for UCLA catering...on-campus jobs are easy to find.

Don't be afraid to talk to everyone you know and let them know you're looking. Many of the best jobs come along via word-of-mouth, not just posting your CV on the Net...

Do any of you work at the UCLA Mailing and Delivery service place (I forgot the actual name)?

Bruincaf is pretty good, free food, and the managers are really laid back so you can go in whenever you want. :)

it's just, never work coffee after 10 or sandwiches/coffee on week 10 and finals week.
